But, deny all knowledge of it, they couldn't prove you had been connected to the ODBII socket, they would have quite a problem. The socket is provided as a legal requirement of maintenance and fault finding etc, if they leave some deeper technical settings open to access, that's their problem IMHO.

Doubtful this would be the case. The problem MG would have is a) proving you'd used the ODBII socket and b) your actions had damaged something.
