Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

Why is it a compromise, it works well for me. 45 deg C isnt too hot, IMHO, a recent holiday in Corfu witnessed temperatures over that in the shade.

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

My system I run the water at 80 degC plus but have a temperature blending valve on the outlet from cylinder to reduce it down to 45 deg C. The plumbing is dead simple with the two pipes needed being at the cylinder already it was literally a T piece, the mixing valve and a bit copper piping...

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

EDDI works in two ways, one on a schedule so you can heat the water off peak and the second it diverts all export thats going to the grid into your immersion, it aims to keep your export at zero. If theres say 700w being exported it will feed that 700w into your immersion. As the Solar increases...

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

Did you not get EDDI installed as part of your setup? I'm sure you talked about it. If you do have, leave it switched on all of the time.

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

Yes the priorities can be set between EDDI and Zappi and battery charging and export. If Zappi isnt wired via it's own consumer unity your battery & solar will see it as a legitimate load and feed it. Loads of people fallen for this one and the only way to stop it is either it's own feed or...

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

Yes it does. Double check that the Zappi is going to be fed from the supply BEFORE and sensing for the inverter, if you dont do this it will have no problem sucking the power from your batteries which isnt what most of us want. It's better if the Zappi has it's own consumer unit from the meter...

No problem, I donate my £50's to charities :) Many other forums have a forum code and they pick up the referrals to donate to worthy causes etc. Saves some bickering which can and does occur with a free for all. I'm glad youve got started, it sounds like your sparky has his finger on the...

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

Probably so, I researched the whole situation for about 18 months before ordering the installation and then another 6 months designing and building an add on powerwall. There's a lot of misinformation out there by well meaning people that really doesn't help (I'm not referring to anything said...

I think Rolfe is a bit further along with this project 😊, many decisions already made.

Octopus GO Intelligent would be my choice. 7.5p 23:30 to 05:30, 26.9p peak and 15p export. It does give you additional hours under their control too. If youre not with Octopus, please use my code to get you and I £50 paid into our accounts. I run my system so that all that I generate is fed...

    EV tariffs

Life is too short to deal with that bunch of clowns. They set a very low bar of customer service and manage to achieve it most of the time. Absolutely the worst company of all.

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

My installer did a very similar presentation and it wasnt too far off. I monitor my system closely (sad but true) and the stats are as follows:- Location: East Midlands Array Size: 6.7 kW (16 panels) Inverters: 1 x Growatt SPH6000 1 x Victron Multiplus II 5000 Batteries: 1 x 7kWh, 1 x 14 kWh...

Use a compatible wallbox instead and then the car doesnt matter. Intelligent Octopus GO is 7.5p for 6 hours (23:30 to 05:30) plus additional times under Octopus control. Currently Zappi, Ohme and Wallbox are the compatible chargers.

    BG or Octopus EV tariff

You need to read up on the tariff, it doesn’t do what it says on the tin as per usual with this bunch of clowns. “Year's free charging claim and 8,000 miles fair usage cap are based on gov.uk National Travel Survey (NTS 0901), showing average UK driver annual mileage of 6,600 miles in 2022...
