What is your opinion on your MG4 for build quality - Good or Bad

On the substantial body quality I don't think we'll know until a few years when they start to rust and the suspension falls apart (or not). An old Volvo I used to have held up very well for example, but a Ford Puma crumbled to dust relatively early. Mine's had a few warnings (auto-hold, airbag)...

    SOH

Hmm, they didn't report the state of health at my first service, did you specifically ask? Though I do have an ODB dongle, so could read it myself

    Cruise control

Had some software updates for the first annual service yesterday (I mentioned jerky cruise control along with half a dozen other issues) and I have to say it's a lot smoother now, more properly damped. Only tested on A roads so far but look forward to trying out on the next motorway trip. It now...

MG4 Trophy 2022 model had major software update WOW!

Ah, good thing to raise. I've got mine booked in in a month or so. The list I've sent them is airbag warning pretty much all the time now intermittent: auto-hold warning, the auto-hold feature when you press the brake pedal doesn't work auto-headlights: they often don't dip for oncoming...

Range decrease due to cold weather [merged thread]

After a good few trips driving in winter now, I can say what makes the most difference by far is whether you have battery heating on. For short trips with it on, it bottoms out at 2.0 miles/kWh, which is I understand the min. it will display, off it gets a fair bit better, around 3, though I...

Charging MG4 Trophy LR, how much do you get at home in 4 hrs?

I've a 'half speed' 3.6kW charger installed, it adds nearly exactly 5% per hour, i.e 20% between 12:30am and 4:30. A normal 7kW charger should therefore add about 40%.

    Slow charging on fast charger

Probably the temperature I'd have thought, battery heating is probably the first thing to try. I don't use DC chargers often, but had 120 or 130 the last time a few months ago (battery heating off, but warmer). Sometimes particular locations can be slow though, not sure how widespread that is.

    Give me a break

I've had it come on before, you can easily get a good few hours driving on mixed roads. As Tight Git said, you have to stop the car, get out, lock it and open up again. Similarly I was only a few minutes from home, coming back at night. It's a good reminder to make a quick stop somewhere on the...

Benefit of heated battery and heated garage

After a bit of searching found this https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2352152X19307728 which says 'Charging at low temperatures can lead to undesirable anode lithium plating [21,22], and hence a reduced battery lifespan' so I think I'll try turning on the battery...

    Door chime sound disappeared

By the way the speaker for the chimes and I assume reversing proximity warnings is separate to the media speakers. It's under the steering wheel to the right a bit, probably on a separate fuse just inc case a restart doesn't fix it and you want to check the fuse too (fuses in the handbook).

ABRP (A Better Route Planner) Range

That sounds like a good explanation - records are constantly being broken so the current temp. is pretty much guaranteed to be above average every year it seems. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/september-was-the-most-anomalously-hot-month-ever/ Memory's not reliable but it certainly...

Passenger Windscreen one touch closing question

My previous cars have done that too, it's for safety I think. The idea is that you can't accidentally trap a passengers hand / head etc. On your own side as the driver there's no problem as a) it's your own body and b) your hands should be on the wheel.

My car does make some noise

OK thanks, if that's the case I will probably just wait until the first annual service and ask them to double check the oil then - can't hurt given MG's history. I may have just particularly noticed it the other day because I was in the quiet countryside with all four windows down. Will keep an...

My car does make some noise

In contrast to thread Your car should make some noise, my MG4 does make a distinct noise when driving, particularly when accelerating or under regenerative braking. It sounded to me slightly different to the speaker-generated pedestrian alert, more a whine, coming from the rear. It is quiet but...

MG4 Spotted! : Was it you?

Aerodynamics I guess. I love seeing EVs of any stripe driving around the city. From the point of view of tailpipe emissions, that’s effectively a car that isn’t there
