Can there ever be enough DC chargers?

Have you used apps like ZapMap and Plugshare? They provide this.

Can there ever be enough DC chargers?

Guest is fine, you just need the Tesla app (and to create a free Tesla account with a credit card). Near me it is 10p/kWh more (roughly, it varies with site and time of day) for non-members. The latest V4 chargers I believe include a screen and card reader, so you can just pay as you would...

Can there ever be enough DC chargers?

I also read that Tesla have cut the monthly membership fee from £10.99 to £8.99 for non-Tesla owners and added a £90/yr annual membership option (16% discount). This is starting to look like worth signing up to for the lower rates even though we don't travel that often. At a very rough...

Can there ever be enough DC chargers?

WooHoo! I get Camborne and Exeter and Cribbs Causeway is so much more convenient than the other Bristol one! Amesbury is ideal for London trips. And now Portsmouth is opened up too (although Southampton needs one for the Cruise market). This is great news! :)

The great big insurance rip off

Yes, although lead driver doesn't always apply. We share the driving equally but there's no way to have a joint policy.

    The Tesla full self-driving thread

Very true, although there's a distinction between foveal vision and peripheral vision. That which we focus on is narrow but that which we can respond to is a wide field. Of course, humans come with lots of flakiness and failings, but any AI system has to be many times safer to overcome the...

    The Tesla full self-driving thread

Let me expand a bit on my doubts about the current technology. Current AI is amazing but flawed and it isn't the same as how humans learn. Humans can do the following: Understand and follow rules Consciously conceptualise and update rules from experience Learn consciously and unconsciously...

    The Tesla full self-driving thread

They are not that close at all. While it is an amazing achievement, the driver still has to sit there and be ready to intervene. There are still plenty of cases where it fails to work. We are something like 6 years after he promised it would be released. Even when it works well enough, there...

The great big insurance rip off

Really sorry to hear this. There's a lot of ageism around for over 80s - travel insurance can be extremely expensive and hard to get too - and this does not seem to be fair.

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

I think the article Geoff is referring to is a simple misinterpretation and late catching up to recent facts. Price cuts are a good thing! We're still getting back into balance after the car price bubble which made EVs hugely expensive and second hand car prices are still abnormally high...

Polestar 2 review (previous gen) and TJA/LKA equivalent

Depends what deposit you put down too - if you've lost that you are underwater. My definition is: being able to trade the car in and have it worth enough to give you the same deposit on your next purchase as you put down on your original PCP. I think I am going to lose my deposit on the MG4...

Polestar 2 review (previous gen) and TJA/LKA equivalent

I don't think it is a simple as that because dealers can also reclaim the VAT on some things - but I admit I am not up on the specifics.

Polestar 2 review (previous gen) and TJA/LKA equivalent

First year depreciation for most vehicles has always been around 20-25%. The biggest chunk of that is driving off the forecourt where immediately you lose something like 10-15%. Losing 16% over 4 months is pretty standard and not unusual. If you then sell back to a dealer you often get even...

    MG EXE181 concept revealed

Wow, I could get to Sainsbury's in 30 seconds! Um... might struggle to park, get in and out and fit the shopping though. 🤣🤣🤣 I think this obsession with 0-60 EVs is silly. In the real world, nobody needs anything faster than say 6s and this is already hard to use without breaking speed limits...

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

I suppose it is fair criticism that life with an EV isn't that simple and it is harder to find chargers and to need to plan routes with that in mind, etc... (although things are changing rapidly and it really doesn't take much thought to figure it out). But what gets me is the willingness of...

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Here's an example of a lack of knowledge leading to some big misperceptions. And that's in the video, there are some absolute howlers in the comments too!

    Upgrade of house main fuse

That's a good point, just because it says 100A on the outside does not mean that's the rated fuse on the inside. That all depends on the apparent cause of the fire. EIC yes, if it was an electrical fault traced to the charger install, if the records were not burnt in the fire, BRCC? I highly...

    Upgrade of house main fuse

I think most people have theirs upgraded to 80A or 100A, but it isn't necessarily required depending on what else you run in the house. Informing the DNO is supposed to be done, but I don't think many independent sparkies do. Not sure mine did. I don't know. My fuse didn't need upgrading.

Is there such a thing as an ev charger protector?

Hopefully you provide plenty of ventilation? That can be important.
