charging port

A charging station, also known as a charge point or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, neighborhood electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrids).
There are two main types: AC charging stations and DC charging stations. Batteries can only be charged with direct current (DC) electric power, while most electricity is delivered from the power grid as alternating current (AC). For this reason, most electric vehicles have a built-in AC-to-DC converter, commonly known as the "onboard charger". At an AC charging station, AC power from the grid is supplied to this onboard charger, which produces DC power to charge the battery. DC chargers facilitate higher power charging (which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters) by building the converter into the charging station instead of the vehicle to avoid size and weight restrictions. The station then supplies DC power to the vehicle directly, bypassing the onboard converter. Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of international standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to charge a wide variety of vehicles that utilize competing standards.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas. Private charging stations are typically found at residences, workplaces, and hotels.

Help - No Charging on Granny Charger

Hi all, I have a pre-facelift MG5 21 plate, I’ve owned the car for around 3 years, most of my charging through this time has been done via a granny charger plugged in through my window. For the last few days the car no longer charges on the granny charger, it locks, engages and then after 10...

MG S5 charging port light stopped working

Hi guys, i have just noticed that my charging port light stopped working, and realised that the last time I have seen it working was probably about two months ago. Charging Flap Won't Open - SOLVED

Hello All, The charging flap on my ZS EV 'facelift' won't open. I am very used to how the flap locks and unlocks as the car locks and unlocks and I cannot hear the short 'zip' noise emanating from the flap lock that I am familiar with when I lock/unlock the car. I am reasonably confident that...

    Blocked drain in charging port

My car was on charge last night and it was raining. I haven't seen this before, but when I came to remove the type 2 plug I noticed that there was standing water in the bottom of the charging port. While it can't become dangerously high, or get into the DC charging contacts if the car is on a...

Got my charging port replaced and now the yellow battery warning finally isn’t random anymore

So I brought my car to an MG dealer because the charging port LEDs hadn’t been working for months. MG took 3 weeks just to authorize the replacement under warranty (during which the dealer completely stripped down the car, once I went there and the whole rear and back seats were removed). Then...

MG4 Charging port lights not working - fixed

Had my MG4 since Oct 24 and the charging port lights stopped working about 4 months ago. Trawled through this thread and got a probable simple fix. Waited a month, still not working so called the local MG4 service centre, assuming (naively) that since the fault has been around since at least...

    Charging port cover not closing

Hi Folks, has anyone else had the following problem and found a solution to it? The charging port is not closing on my 2021 MG5 (ie the flap does not 'click' shut). The pin that appears to have the lock mechanism does not reliably spring out and turn, so I'm assuming that is the problem. I've...

    Charging port flap not opening

Our MG4 has decided that it doesn't want the charging port flap to open - I've seen that this can be an issue in cold weather but as we're currently at around 34°C here in Devon, I don't think that is the cause. I've tried the emergency cable in the boot (although I realise that this is to...

MG ZS Rust on charging port

Hi, We are considering an ex-leased MG ZS from 2020 that drove 40.000km. The body, wheels and seats looks very good as new. However there is some rust under the charging port that makes me wonder what is going on, or if it's a known issue. The dealer had another MG (2021) that did not have...
