charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

MG4 dead after charging (disco lights)

I charged my 2023 MG4 Luxury at work today in the nice cool underground car park. When I returned, it unlocked but the mirrors remained folded. When I sat in it and pressed the brake it didn't start but all the lights just went crazy. Interior, headlamps, rear and brakes, all flashing away at a...

Slower than expected DC charging MG4 Trophy

I've not yet had to rely on DC charging but have done a couple so I am familiar when it is needed, we're planning a long trip at the end of Summer. The first time I was around 65% and only got 25kW from a 50kW charger. The perceived wisdom then was that my initial state of charge was a bit high...

Hi there, Just bought 4 different cables to test with fitting through the console to the charging mat area to plug in my phone. I have a Pixel 9 Pro XL which is quite big, and none of the cables work well. They all result in my phone sitting on the side which looks a bit awkward and I don't...

Which EV, new or used, would you change your MG for?

I'm thinking of possibly part exchanging my MG4 Trophy for a different EV as I'm getting fed up of MG's lack of urgency in sorting out the charging problem I've had since February and it's going in again next week. I haven't found anything that jumps out as the ideal alternative so I thought...

Battery balancing and battery life - fast or slow charging?

I have always used the granny charger to do a battery balance (every 2 months approx.) Now I'm on time-of-use electricity tariff, I would prefer to use the home AC charger to get the job done during the lowest electricity rate (9am to 3 pm). Any views on speed of charging and battery life?

Anyone using car battery to power house ?
