limp-mode

Limp-mode (also known as limp-home mode) is a protective feature in a vehicle’s engine or transmission control system that activates when the system detects a fault or abnormal condition. When engaged, the vehicle limits engine power, speed, or available gears to prevent further damage while still allowing the driver to “limp” the vehicle to a repair facility.
