From what I've read these smart meters will need to be replaced or reworked when the 2G/3G signal is switched off. Smart meters to become obsolete and need replacing by 2030s
I had the same sort of SMETS1 meter, installed by British Gas. I changed to Octopus and they fitted a new SMETS2 meter, then I was able to go onto Octopus Go, which gives 4 hours of cheap electricity for EV charging. So, you can only use a time of day tariff with a SMETS1 if it is "Secure" branded.
Ours is a Landis+Gyr branded meter so what are our options?
You can have a time of day tarrif with smets1, but only with suppliers that use the same brand of meter. Octopus Support 'secure' branded smets1 meters. I'm on go with an eon installed smets1 secure branded meter. So, you can only use a time of day tariff with a SMETS1 if it is "Secure" branded.
