Does anybody actually really understand income Tax? Just been in touch with The tax office. For what I thought was a relatively simple query. 20 minutes later, me heads kettled!
Think I've sorted it, but only think!
After the call, straight for the Paracetamol.

I have paid it. All my life. That's a bit of a daft statement. This was about another issue.

It becomes an issue if the tax man thinks you owe income tax on money you haven't actually earned.

It happened to a friend of mine who was doing some agency work. Someone at HMRC put a decimal point in the wrong place and hounded him for the money until he ended up having a heart attack due to all the stress they caused him.

I suspect Jimmy Carr's accountants knew how income tax worked better than most office workers at HMRC did.
