I have owned the S5 for 3 days and it is absolutely brilliant compared to my previous ICE cars. Really happy.

On my last car the drivers seat had a plastic trim immediately on the rim and it snapped. I'm not that big 😁 On the S5 it's similar with a grey plastic rim and it's not snapped but noticed it's quite thin and as you get into the car and put weight on the seat you are pushing down on the thin plastic which I'm concerned it may break.

Not sure there is any fix/protector for this but it's definitely a general design concern. Assume if it breaks this won't be covered by the warranty?

In the first 12 months, property yes !.
Trim items on almost all cars are only covered for the first 12 months.

The front seats are the same design as the MG4, although with a different covering, and no-one has reported those seats breaking in the three years since its release. The only defect on the MG4 seats was the side bolster showing signs of wear and in some cases the stitching giving way.

Also I'm also not that big either (6ft 1in and 18.5 stone) and in the 2 1/2 years of my MG4 ownership I had no problems with the seat. If you are that concerned get a seat cushion which will save some wear on the seat and ease the amount of pressure you put on the side panel.

This is the one I use
