Fine Control of Power Windows

I have difficulty, especially when driving, partly-opening a window.
Am I missing a trick that will allow me to stop the window where I want it, e.g. a quarter inch open?
Or do others find MG windows are more hit and miss than some other makes?

I always seem to find myself opening the back windows, because those buttons fall most easily to hand.

I actually find that opening the rear a crack or two is better for ventilation, less windy and less noisy than opening the fronts whilst on the move.

The trick is just making it a crack. Too much and you get that horrible pressure oscillation that makes it feel like you eardrums are going to burst.

Just a quick short jab on the window button drops it a tiny amount. Keep jabbing for wider opening. Works every time for me so give it a try.

Wouldn't it be great if manufacturers designed it so that if you want the window to keep going up or down, you just had to keep holding the button - and it stops when you take your finger off - that would be a much better design! But no, they never think of that - all cars do the same thing - "oh, you want the window fully down" says the software....

Just press and release the very edge of the window button (s) sharply and the window will go down about 2cm

Mine stops when I release button. No problem with MG5 FL

Yes, having the same issue with my newly acquired MG HS + EV in Sydney. Have always had slim line weather shields in my cars so as to be able to use this option (one-inch open windows) because of various obvious reasons in our climate. If parked on a hot day - some small air circulation, to keep it cooler. Or, just like fresh air to come in - even if it is raining a bit......
It is a bit hit and miss with the short / light touch on the edge of the window button.
We have 'amount' or 'sensitivity' adjustments for so many things on these new, computerised cars, like rain sensing wipers, or lane departure, or speed [exceeded warning when over x % on the Sat Nav system] etc.
May be just a question of time for one such 'sensitivity' adjustment on the window button?

I did mean exactly what I said, if I was designing these buttons that's what I'd do - but then I'm a software developer, and you have to bear in mind how your functionality will be used when designing.

As others have pointed out, that's exactly the way that they work. Short press, moves slightly - long press, moves down more. If you want it to go all the way up or down than you press it past the point of resistance. This is the way that the electric windows have worked in very car that I've had - and it's the same with the MG5 FL

The point I was making is it isn't very handy having to faff about touching it a little bit, then finding you've done it too much - I'd rather be able to move it to where I want without single short presses. Had one old car whose passenger window did just that, was much better - for me anyway. Being a designer, I have a thing about technology that doesn't work effectively - e.g. milk jugs that dribble onto the table, hand driers that don't dry your hands, and these electric windows are one of these. Could do better but they just keep pouring out the same dodgy designs.

Which they can do - just hold the switch down until it gets to where you want it and then let it go.

For someone who carries on about UI you seem to have made no effort to find out how things really work. The MG5 switches seem quite accurate.

I can't comment about the pre FL, as mine is an FL. Page 56 in the manual refers, which shows the switch working exactly as you outlined.

Window Operation

Press the window control switch (2 ～ 5) to the first position (C) to lower the window; Lift the switch to the first position (B) to raise. The window will stop moving as soon as the switch is released.

“One-Touch” Down

Press the switch (2～ 5) to the second position (D) for a short time and releasing will automatically open the window completely. Window movement can be stopped

at a desired position at any time by briefly operating the switch again.

“One-Touch” Up with “Anti-Trap”

Depending on vehicle specification, some windows may have the "One-Touch" up function. Lifting the switch to position (A) for a short time and releasing will automatically close the window completely. Window movement can be stopped at a desired position at any time by briefly operating the switch again.

The “Anti-Trap” function is a safety feature which prevents the window from fully closing if an obstruction is sensed - if this happens the window will open slightly to allow the obstruction to be removed.
