I have finally been advised by the dealer in Cornwall that the IM5 LR that I ordered last September will be arriving in Avonmouth around the 23rd/24th of February.
I am approaching the arrival of the IM5 with both excitement and trepidation. Excitement because it is a new offering from MG with alot of new tech, and trepidation due to the fact that I read about alot of problems from new owners of IM's on the IM5/IM6 owners Facebook page who appear to have lots of issues with the cars.

Time will tell which one it is

I ordered Im5 lr from Hawkins in Sept.
Was told it was in the country a month ago. Each week since they have said it should be arriving in a few days.
Now I am totally fed up and considering cancelling.
What was fun and exciting is now just causing me anger, frustration and posting here instead of sleeping.

Yesterday they said it was on the transporter, but it will just sit there until it has a full load to bring to cornwall.
SAIC invested in a fleet of ships to get the cars here from shanghai, then the wonders of british business management leaves £100,000's of stock sitting in a car park for months.

Hi Nigel,
Like you I chased them continuously to get some shipping info, and yesterday was the first time Hawkins had any concrete information to give me. I hope you do not have to wait until the ship that my order is on, to get delivery of your car. What colour combination did you order?

Hi Jim
Grey & grey
I think hawkins are nearly as frustrated as me. Their system doesn't seem to give any reliable 'conrete' information. Several delivery dates promised and not appeared.

MG have no real system in place to provide updates re the status of orders, it's just wait and see, unfortunately

Dealers often only get notified by MG at the last minute before a vehicle will arrive.

There can be many reasons for port delays: customs, inspections, processing delays, localisation for the UK, shortage of car transporters.

MGUK have always taken the approach that they will manage it the best way they see fit and aim to get cars as quickly as possible to customers.

BUT: this means nobody gets any visibility into when their car is going to arrive, or if they get a date, it is speculative and can change.

Other makers do a better job of keeping you informed, but I have had delays with VWs and other makes too, so I think the biggest issue is the state of UK ports.

Hi Nigel,

Yes I agree with you that Hawkins seem as frustrated as their customers. There doesn't appear to be a good system between MG and the dealers. Shame really you would have thought it would be better so as to enhance the customer experience when you contact them asking for shipping details.
I ordered a Blue with Grey interior IM5 LR. I currently have an MG4 ER in Holburn Blue which thus far has been great. I am only hoping the IM5 will be the same. Being Scottish, I like the colour blue for obvious reasons!
Hope you get your car soon.

It is clear they have no system; but there is no excuse for not having one nowadays. A £10 parcel can be tracked from china to your door.
It is just bad-lazy business practice not to put systems in place. It must cost them money not to get cars to customers as quick as possible.
Is the boss just off playing golf with his fossil fuel legacy school mates?

Welcome to the wonderful world of MG 😁

Thanks Nigel, but I best not. Being an MG enthusiast (had a couple of MGB's 20+ years ago), I feel it is a pity that the IM does not have the MG octagon on the front like the MG4's (I know all the reasons why, - MG marketing the sub brand etc), but I still believe that it would look better than the IM logo. Sorry, but I am a old fashioned sentimentalist (so my wife tells me!).

Are you aware of any other IM's in Cornwall currently or are on order?
