IM6 or Model Y?

Hi all,

First post on the forum from a potential new owner.

I am in a very peculiar situation at the moment and I am looking for some opinions on the matter.
I really want to replace my Tesla Model 3 since it will be 6 years old this December. I have quite a high mileage so out of warranty already and 1 year left on the battery and motors. Started to have some hefty bills recently with repairs out of warranty.
Furthermore I have FSD on the 3 and currently tesla allows transfer as long delivery occurs before the 30th of September.

2 candidates at the moment. Juniper AWD and IM6. Need the bigger boot with kids being older and a dog in the mix..

Have test driven the Juniper and really liked it. Feels a good upgrade vs the previous one which I had the chance to drive as a rental. Did another test drive this time with the wife accompanying and her feedback was the following:
''Typical Tesla, very spartan interior (which she is not very fond of). Massive improvement on build quality and noise levels. We could actually whisper to each other while driving at 75 mph. Wife loved the storage capacity. As she mentioned we will probably not need the roof box if we go for it. So overall feedback was that the car does not have the wow factor but it is a really well built car that suits our needs finely.''

Started the process on the order; waiting for trade in evaluation at the moment. Looks like that I will be in position to have delivery before end of month so I will have the FSD transfer applied.

That gives me about a week to see if I can have something with MG. So far and from what I have seen on reviews is that it is a decent car; loaded on tech but a big unknown in the UK...Bit worried about parts availability, service levels and all that comes with a brand new car brand and model in the country...
Forgot to add that based on Aussie reviews it also requires an annual service. Big disadvantage this vs the Y. First three don't look that bad price wise (would reckon around £200 on conversion) but the 4 year one is around £700!!!

Still cant find anywhere to test drive the IM6. Local garage said by end of this week but we all know salesmen talk.
I have managed to find some PCP deals on it and looks like a bit cheaper that then Y; and I am talking about the top spec version which is essentially comparable to the performance Y.
Still my concerns remain regarding service and level of support...

Did anyone manage to test drive the IM6? Any thoughts on comparing the 2?
Are we expecting different service intervals in the UK? I know for example that BYD in Australia is every year while here every two.

Apologies for the long post; would love to hear back from you guys.
 
I looked at the IM6 on saturday and it is impressive. Very comfortable too. Very small rear window but I don't that a problem anyway, having grown up driving vans
It will probably be my next company car, middle of next year

I have approached 2 dealers so far for a test drive; both don't have it.
No information either on service intervals.
I am hoping for this week since I must admit it looks promising and ticks a lot of boxes for me.

For a bit more content I also test drove the BYD sealion7 since the wife owns an Atto3 and the Xpeng G6.

The BYD is a very nice; plush car. But that's it. Horrendous efficiency; mediocre charging speeds, unbelievably small boot for a car of this size and although it is a great cruiser on the motorway within the city or any twisty roads it drives like a boat...

Xpeng on the other hand it is just nice. Nothing special about it. Feels a lot like the first gen of Model Y. Also, and a bit of surprise for me considering other Chinese EVs in the same category; materials a bit on the cheap side.

I am staying away of European middle SUVs... mediocre driving behaviour and software that any developer should hang their heads in shame. Also everything seems to be an extra.

Welcome Nick. My overall opinion is very good now, but the first few weeks were a bit of a challenge. Being such a new car, there is a lack of infrastructure and knowledge base. The owner’s manual is content free. There are a LOT of settings, some of which will be the set and forget type, but that still leaves some that you will want to play with. Remembering how to navigate to the desired setting takes some time. Some can be assigned to a shortcut screen which is helpful. I do, however, appreciate having all these setting available. The interior is fairly plush, but not overdone. I like the dashboard completely devoid of any switches, buttons, or sliders. Very clean looking. Everything is done by a motor or solenoid. Even the interior door releases are electric. Driving is really really nice. The steering responds very well, and the rear wheel steering works flawlessly. I love the ‘Pilot’ system that controls speed and steering, and lane changing. It even does stop-and-go traffic. It is big and heavy, but it goes like a rocket, instant max torque is wonderful. Service is a new AC cabin filter annually, and brake fluid flush every two years. That saves me a four hour oil change every six months. Best luck on your search, I spent three months, multiple spread sheets, and hundreds of web sites before I made my decision. The research is very enjoyable for me. Cheers!

Hi evets. Thank you for the kind welcome (same goes to everybody else) and the information provided.
I will be giving some further calls around today to see if there are any news regarding a test drive.
Servicing doesn't sound bad or illogical based on your info.
One thing I wanted to ask; when you use the navi for a trip above the cars mileage; does it include charging stations on its way?
This is something I would really consider non-negotiable since both my Tesla and even my wife's BYD are spot on on trip planning.

Yep, bought my X Power from them. Seem to be a good dealer. Not had any more dealings with them, coz my, X Power's been great. No faults at all.
So can't comment on aftersales. Although it's in next week for its 1st service.
So I'll see how they shape up then. 🙂👍

Good to hear you've booked in for a test drive at Chorley. Makes me feel like there's an upside to doing these videos after all 😂
The service intervals are confirmed as 15k miles / 12 months (whichever comes first).
Warranty is same as other MG models, so 7 years on the car, 8yrs on battery:

Also, yes, the built in mapping does give you charge stops enroute.
