I did a dummy quote with my current insurer Quote Me Happy (Aviva) and they didn’t quote me happy at all with no quote available.

Then I went on an insurance comparison site and it wasn’t cheap with the cheapest being with AA. The dual motor is in insurance group 42 out of 50.
 
I also couldn't get my S6 Trophy Long Range single motor insured with my existing insurer Allianz, as it wasn't in their systems at all.
I also used the comparison sites and went went with the AA
 
Anyone having issues with getting insurance for S6 Dual Motor? Speaking with a friend who is considering one and like me has a multi policy with Admiral tells me they won't cover the dual, just the SE and Trophy long range.
Ended up going with the AA for insurance in the Dual Motor.

£770 for 2 drivers, 10k miles, + business usage, and an sp30.

Everyone else over £1,000
 
Maybe like the IM5 and 6 motors insurers are holding back as they like the S6 they are new cars and not enough data available for some underwriters to do the math and come up with a premium.

Does seem those who will quote are making sure they are covered though.
 
Is that expensive though? A brand new pretty powerful unknown car to the market. 2 drivers, 10k miles a year plus business usage and a speeding ticket. 🤷‍♂️
Yes exactly, who knows. It's just the best available. If anyone else is comfortable to share it would be interesting to see. I had a VW ID3 for 4 years prior. That went from 360 yr 1 to 800 yr 2, then levelled out around 500 years 3 and 4 in similar crisis.

My dummy quote gave me about £550 with AA. 8k miles, 2 drivers, no business use and no points. Currently paying £300 on a 2021 HS PHEV.

That seems a ridiculous price for an id 3 my Born peaked at £380 down to £280 this year. 2 drivers, 8000 miles no points full NCD

That seems more reasonable. There are some variables that make us higher risk (3 points, business, milage etc) but yes, it does seem steep in comparison. Thanks for sharing.
 
Full NCD, 2 accidents in last 5 years: one my fault in a car park nearly 4 years ago, no damage to my car (Disco 3, so no claim), damaged indicator to other car; one other driver's fault, MG5 written off last September. In the following, all the quotes are for 11k miles pa, spouse as named driver, no points, includes no claims protection, all the usuals (no breakdown cover), and with a £500 voluntary excess, monthly payments (so can knock at least around £60 off for paying it all up front).

I'd been with the RAC for the MG5 (and Disco 3) and their underwriters wouldn't quote on an S5 (my choice to replace the MG5) without a reg number last October/November. In early December I tried again: no reg number was up around the £1k mark, but put a reg number in and then a couple of their underwriters quoted something up around the mid to high £700 (IIRC). That, and other things taking precedence in personal life, temporarily stopped me getting my MG5 replacement straight away.

Fast forward to early January and I was still primarily thinking of getting the S5 when the S6 deals started being advertised, and so I widened my choice. In getting quotes for the S6 the RAC underwriters wouldn't quote for it with or without a reg number. Using a comparison site, an initial no reg number illustrative quote for the S6 Trophy threw up a range from £650 (Admiral) to about £1100. A few days later, having decided to get the S6 I used the same comparison site with the reg number and got around £550 with the AA (which didn't appear in the no-reg quote). And if I'd wanted to wait another roughly 10-15 days to pick the car up I could have got even cheaper insurance, but how much cheaper I didn't explore.
 
Does seem to be very confusing the whole reg number no reg number thing, Admiral let me get a quote entering the details of the car manually, but that may have been I was an existing customer with a multi car and home policy, the S6 was registered in my wife's name with myself as a nominated driver to use her existing NCD from her previous car which would have been lost otherwise, at the same time letting me move my NCD to my other car which will reduce it's premium significantly at renewal.

Has anyone tried using the reg number from the same model they are considering listed on a dealer site for a quote?

They consider you to be more organised/not in a rush. Basically, anyone planning ahead is statistically less likely to make a claim than someone who waits until the last minute to secure coverage. The fact I'd been looking for a purchase for over 3 months doesn't seem to factor in. It's just seen that I purchased a car and I arranged insurance 2 days before I picked it up as I had a space in my calendar to do so!
