MG UK Customer Service response to high RPM

Hopeless response I received from MG UK customer services to an ongoing request for something to sort the high RPM situation we all have. Appears that the factory does not have an answer and is not going to investigate further. Think it's about time this fault was made public to warn future purchasers of the ZS Hybrid of what they are likely to experience when going up a slight incline, or do we wait until in an overtaking situation, the power is not there to make a safe manoeuvre.

Thank you for your further correspondence back,
I have communicated with our head office regarding this,

We have been advised this is now a characteristic of the vehicle and not a fault of the vehicle,

When your vehicle does rev up you might feel that this is a fault, please note this is the hybrid system working and generating power to the motor of the vehicle.

If the vehicle suspects that it is low on battery or climbing a hill as an example this will cause the hybrid to use its system to generate more power.

As this isn’t a fault of the vehicle and a characteristic, we wouldn’t be able to advise further.

If you wish to speak to your local MG dealership, they will be able to advise you further.

I agree. also see my 2 posts in ''MG ZS Hybrid+ high engine revs'' which I think explains some things and causes an unsafe situation. I was hoping to get a few responses to see if people think its logical and then I will be going to customer services

Hi Dave.
Regarding the section of the response you received, “please note this is the hybrid system working and generating power to the motor of the vehicle”.
As this is ungrammatical, and makes no sense whatsoever ever, I think it’s reasonable to conclude that Craig doesn’t understand how the ZS hybrid system works.

As an aside, I was at my dealership today, and got into a conversation with a gentleman arranging a test drive, at the coffee machine. I told him that the ‘hybrid” system is very different to other “car” propulsion systems, and to test drive it up a nearby steepish hill, before committing to purchase. If, when he had done this, he was OK with the car, then he would enjoy owning one, as I said, I do.

I will never know the outcome, however, if he decides against purchasing, due to the high revs. One would have thought the dealership would be very concerned.

Yeah…. conveniently doesn’t mention the loss of power people are reporting that could lead to a potentially life ending situation. High revs is one thing. Loss of power is something entirely different. Not maintaining speed is not a characteristic. Total deflection.

Agreed, however I think software update PD052 was issued to overcome the “loss of power” problem, although I have never experienced it. PD052 changes the way the/my hybrid system works. If anything it revs more, but this is to ensure the battery capacity never drops below 30%, and therefore the “life ending situation” never materialises. It’s 2 different things.
