#Vehicle2Load #V2L #update When your wife asks you to empty the washing machine and put the wet washing in to the tumble dryer during the day (I’m working at home) my first thought is about cost as we have a 2030-0130am cheaper octopus go faster tariff when we normally put white goods appliances on. As a tight Yorkshireman I thought to myself do I try my V2L and plug in my 2.2kW tumble dryer to the MG to gain access to the 5.5p pKw electrons I had already topped up with so I did:) I WAS REALLY DOING THIS AS AN EXPERIMENT TO HELP EVERYONE IN THE GROUP 🙂 Anyway, I started with 66% SoC / 167 mile range and when the dryer finished 75 minutes later the battery was at 63% / 163 miles and the clothes were dry 🙂 It’s definitely handy to have a 70kWh battery bank on your drive 🙂 I now wait for all the silly comments ha…

That's awesome! Thank you for doing this. We have recently got our new long range & are on the same tariff. Going to look into getting a lead now. We have solar pv & battery storage too, but unable to use if there's a power cut. However with V2L capability from the ZS, that should work 😊

Flat top I bought a 2nd hand 16amp type 2 cable £40 then bought a £10 waterproof 13amp socket and attached that to the end after removing the redundant connector then I installed a 470 ohm resistor that the MG recognises as V2L for £50 all in. You can buy them for £130 but doesn’t take long to knock one up yourself 🙂 Tight Yorkshireman ha!

I like your style @Flat top !.
We have always used our gas boiler to heat our domestic hot water, until the huge price rise in April.
Also with another one due later this year, I started to rethink this policy.
We have a hot water storage cylinder with a emersion heater, that was never used.
Purely a “Back Up” if the boiler develops a fault.
I decided to turn off our timed hot water from the gas boiler and install a emersion heater timer control.
This emersion heater is now pulling juice on our cheap “Off Peak” rate at 5p / KWh which is a lot cheaper than our gas tariff right now !.
We charge our ZS EV LR on the same cheap of peak rate of course.
Hooking it up to the tumble dryer is a great idea.
I already have a V2L cable in the boot !.
I thought a tumble drier would be rated too high for use on the V2L cable ??.
Not sure what ours is rated as ?.
We have pushed as much as we can into that 5 hour cheaper “Off Peak” window of opportunity, between 1.00am and 6.00am.

I will probably do this for washing and drying not at same time I don't have a off peak tariff but I can charge any time at 5p would be rude not to in fact my pool heater runs under 2kw it's one of them heat pumps I can save a fortune

Just remember that every time you do a conversion, there will be losses.

I dont know what the price difference is, but i think the rule of thumb is that there is about 5-10% losses for every conversion.

First to charge the battery, in the car and then again, when you convert it back into AC.

But a fun little experiment nevertheless.

Our clothes dryer only draws about 500 watts when we run it at a ~3 hour program, fully loaded.

I used an amp clamp and a gopro that took a picture every minute, to document the current draw on the clothes dryer, washing machine and dishwasher, to get a feeling for how long they took a lot of power (Heating water etc.) This was done to know when i was able to start the next machine, when i had started one (Solar inverter can only deliver 3.6 kW so trying to keep below, to not have to buy electricity when we produce "enough" )

The official rating for the MG ZS EV facelift V2L is 2.2kW which is exactly the same as my tumble dryer but don't forget the dryer wont pull 2.2kW the whole time in its drying cycle. Boiling the kitchen kettle works well too and I have tested items above 2.2kW up to 3kW but I wouldn't recommend running a higher power for long periods of time.

Thanks for uploading this, I didn't even know this was a feature! Really impressed and will also be getting a lead as and when the car arrives :)
I made the V2L cable after buying a 16amp type 2 cable for £40 and then buying a £10 waterproof outdoor 13amp socket and connected this to the redundant end and then installed a 470 ohm resistor within the charge socket end and Bobs your Uncle you have a homemade V2L cable for £50 as opposed to £130 online.

Can we please keep this kind of thing off the board. Its bad enough that ICE drivers are having to pay over £100 to fill up their cars, if they find out that they can also have a home battery system included in the ev that gives them cheap rate electricity thro the day (and covers any future power cuts) they will have a hissy fit and may well go out and buy one (well join the waiting list 🤦).
Do remember the old adage, "Loose talk costs...." Free road tax, cheap motoring etc
Please note, this is not meant to be a post taken seriously..... well not that much😉

Not taken seriously Rob!

Am I going blind, or are the secure torx screws in the type 2 plugs 5-point rather than 6-point?

I don’t really know. But mine hade a pin in the middle. I ended up using a flat screwdriver.
The "pin in the middle" is the "secure" bit.

Definitely 5-point in mine. Oh well, another set of bits to add to the collection...

Amazon sell those bits for less than 5£, or at least they did when I had to repair the granny lead on my last car.....

All done. Cable works just fine.
