Hi I got a reply back from MG UK regarding the software update announced in Australia and New Zealand. It was basically: the cars there are different to the cars in the UK Europe. It is a chararistic for the car to over rev charge the battery and rev its nuts off going up hills, also was told if there was an update it's the dealership's job to notify, so obviously I said I've never heard so much bullshit in my life. The cars are different, no they aren't? A chararistic it can't be because MG Australia has issued an update for over rev etc going up hills . And also it was the dealership that told me to get in touch with MG UK because it's not the dealership that brings out the software update? So I AM waiting for a reply from the biggest waste of time, MG customer service, again. And asked again when this software update is coming? So I doubt the software you got is the latest, unless now your car doesn't rev itself to pieces going up hills that is ?
As you say utter bullshit . I asked about my hs hybrid sitting revving at 1400 revs and was told the same . I don’t care what any engineer mechanic or tech says there’s absolutely no way the zs should be doing this and no way the hs needs to sit at 1400 revs either to recharge . Makes me wonder if I should have bought a Toyota or Honda hybrid .

I can confirm that MG is completely silent about this in Italy as well — same behaviour, same problems, and absolutely no communication from them about any software update. I think at this point a complaint to the Consumer Association will follow soon, because the situation is unacceptable and MG keeps ignoring the problem instead of providing real answers.

I don't think this will ever be sorted out properly. The generator is too small, yes it can give out 40 KWH, but only at high revs.

I remote start my MG3 in the morning and let it run on it's own for 10 minutes, in that time the battery level only goes up a notch or 2. Yes it's charging but really slowly at about 1200 rpm.

I'm ashamed to take anyone out in mine unless I know there are no hills or slight inclines. It's just too embarassing.

Yeh Toyota is the way to go . I must off bumped my head i traded my Toyota Corolla hybrid in for one of these over revving characteristic vehicles 😭

lol thankfully the hs is behaving itself just now . But it must be pretty scary not knowing if the car is going to be able to overtake 😱. I looked at the rav but didn’t like the dash and think the hs is much nicer . Plus not paying our beloved government the extra VED🤬. Got a trip to the Lake District on Monday so will see how the car performs , I will be taking my train pass just in case 🤣🤣🤣

Hopefully the trip goes well without the over revving issues. 👍

I've had another message from MG UK ::

I understand the dealership advised you to contact us directly. However as advised we cannot confirm anything regarding the software update. We can only advise for you to contact the dealership for them to contact yourself if an update for software becomes available . I won't go into detail regarding my reply to that email, Let's just say it boils my pish 😉

Latest update from MG UK they have contacted me to ask for name of the dealership to advise them to get in touch with myself when the latest software update gets released for over revving issues , as Which has been released in Australia. Could just be more of the sloping shoulders pass the buck to the dealership? We will see 😉

Hey Scot, so you mean the update has already been released in Australia? Thanks for letting me know — let’s see if this time they don’t just pass the buck 😉

Yeh I think it will be a while before it's released for UK I think , especially the way mg UK and the dealerships work perhaps that could be a chararistic 😁

Hi Scot, first of all I want to thank you very much for keeping us updated about this new software update. I have an october 25 plate MG ZS Hybrid. Like many others in this thread, I’m disappointed with the noise and vibrations inside the cabin when the car holds such a high RPM level (around 4000–4500 rpm) on any kind of incline, regardless of the SOC or the gradient, keeping it there for the entire climb

I’m writing from Spain to ask if you can please confirm:

- Are we talking about a different update from the PD052 that was released earlier this year, correct?

- Is it supossed to reduce noise/vibrations and overreving?

- Do you know the name of this new update, and whether it is confirmed for 2025 models or when it might be released (I understand from what you wrote that it may not be confirmed yet)? I’ve tried searching online but found nothing (only news about the 2026 model reducing noise and RPM) and several dealerships here in Spain also said me they don’t know anything about this update.

Thanks for any info you can provide Regards!!!

In Ireland we are being told that an update is available. Very sketchy what it does though the rabble-rousers ECM was mentioned. Anyone explain how an update to Electronic Control Module would improve the Rev situation? Having said that, since I got the original update in February, I have had no issues with high Revs.

Seemingly dealerships in the UK and Europe allegedly don't know because it's only just getting rolled out in Australia New Zealand . first? The update is to refine power and delivery and improve fuel efficiency over different driving conditions whether it works is a different thing though? But that's my opinion think positive 😁

As I did receive that ECM update last week and have used the car a bit since then, I would say it'S a so so update; In normla driving I would say the engine kicks in more often, despite the battery being well filled, though revs are lower when charging as a result; In that it feels a bit more like a Toyota; ALso when accelerating, REVS shoot up sooner, feels a bit more CVT like, probably again to have a more stable load; But the biggest difference I feel is that the car feels less potent now, kind of missing the rushed urgence the MG had before. Also the KW indicator now barely seems indicate values over 90KW in normal mode, even with a heavy foot, sort of what the car feels like now, kind of like reserving full power for kickdowns in sport mode or so; At least those occasional rev ups for recharging whilst going in a flat straight have noticeably decreased, but at a cost. More consistent, but less fun.
