I have a 70mai lying here and just ordered a 70mai obd usb cable for it. That cable can be set to turn off after 8, 12 or 24 hours, or always on.
I didn't know about those obd cables. That's a good alternative. How long did you leave your dashcam on, without using the car?

Few of us are using Nextbase dashcam with Nextbase OBD cables. The OBD is a constant live connection. On the Nextbase the camera stops recording when no motion is sensed and goes into standby parking mode. I tried switching off the parking mode but this caused the camera won’t switch off and it just kept recording even when car is parked up and locked. There is a note from Nextbase when using OBD port that parking mode must be ON.

Yes, the 70mai has the same option. However it's just not recording. The camera is still working off course.

A sort of follow up for other threads re. music coming on/staying on etc. My Kodiaq had different volume settings for media and you could set the volume on start so you didn't make your passengers wet themselves when the music starts at your preferred volume. That would be a nice addition to the settings

Interesting and relevant.

Source level adjustment has been pretty much a standard feature of most car stereos for at least 20 years. It was one of the first things I looked for when I got the car, and was very surprised when I could not find it.

Yo

u do know I’m frantically searching for the components to upgrade the sub woofer, don’t you?

There are lots of dealers for audiotec-fisher in the UK (non in NI, though), but just contact any one of them. That's the sub. Any amp which can deliver around 250W into 4 ohms will do, as long as it has a low pass filter (most do) and preferably also a high-pass/subsonic filter. A lot of amps also come with built in high level input, so you don't even need the high-level adaptor I use, although that is of better quality than a built in one, but for a subwoofer, sound quality isn't that important.

I can get round the NI bit so I already found a source for the sub. I really like that amp but any suggestions for alternates available over here would be most welcome.

I'm sure your source for the sub have amps that will work. I don't really have any recommendations, as I'm not really into car stereo anymore, but a quick search led me to this, which is in the similar price range. It's also available at currys.

They also have a slightly more more powerful monoblock from the same maker. Slightly more expensive though at around £85.
Both will do just fine.

Excellent, thanks for the input.👍🏻

I'm sure they wouldn't mind some help in the woofing department, with the added benefit of a light massage from the vibration of the sub 😂
Strangely enough the other half seemed to enjoy the presence to the sub I had under the passenger seat in my Vito.........

On my Mazda, I got it hard wired into the fuse box (which is in the passenger foot well) via the hardwire splicing kit (I have the 622GW front and rear fitted by NextBase - got to get that out of the Mazda before it goes). Is the OBD port better for preserving the car 12v battery? On the Mazda, the OBD port appeared to drain the 12v battery and people then had issues starting the car. Im wondering if there are any threads on here of how people have routed front and rear cam wiring?

There is no power feed in the S6 boot area. Nor is there a convenient USB socket on the centre mirror shroud as there is in the S5.
We've the small rear camera attachment and now the Nextbase OBD fitment. If you go for the attached rear camera, also get the suction fitment, as the combined weight is too much for the adhesive pad. Giller has a separate thread on hiding the OBD wiring.

Well two theads actually one on fitting a front camera using the obd port, and one on fitting the rear camera, both Nextbase although other brands are available.

Obd port would always be my choice on an EV but particularly the S6 as there are no switched live connections in the fuse box, I’ve had no issues with power drain, cams use small amount of electric, just make sure you set up parking mode.

Perfect - thank you. I did find both of those threads and it seems fairly straight forward. lol now for the headache of getting the old cables out of the Mazda, fingers crossed it shouldnt be too bad (I fitted my sisters Nextbase 522gw fron tand rear cams in her Audi Q2 - that was a nice easy install)

I not sure if I mentioned it or not but there is a sensor on the back of the rear mirror (rain I think) so don't be tempted to fit the camera there, would I know be neater but you'd potentially block the sensor.

Thank you - I hadnt noticed that. I was probably going to fit the NextBase in the same location you have it in the pics of your rear mount thread. Pretty much where I have it at the moment on the Mazda. I would assume that sensor on the back of the rear mirror is more for detecting light levels for dimming the dashboard/auto lights rather than rain sensor.

Also just saw your post about the 12v battery state with and without the dashcam at S6 Dash cam fitting using OBD port. | MGS6 EV Forum. Thats vey useful to know - i will just order the OBD kit at that rate.

On my thread, where I mentioned Home Assistant, there is an integration to monitor that Ancel battery monitor, which is an even bigger win :) I can monitor most of these metrics already in Home Assistant for the Mazda so getting similar metrics for the MG is a big win :)
