Might Switch To Full EV?

Having had just over 1 month with an MG HS PHEV.
I think that a full EV might suit my needs better?

I reckon that a new MG S6 might do the trick?
Providing that the new BS £40k" "Luxury/expensive" car tax has been genuinely raised to £50k for full EV's?

But only if I don't get stIffed by my local MG dealership for such an early PX?
But it's only money, & you can't take it with you eh!

I also started with a Hybrid (MG3), to give this new 'electric' thing a try, and guess what, 3 months later I knew full EV was for me, so I switched to EV, and now less than 2 years after the MG3, I'm on my second EV.

So if you ask me, get a home charger, and get an EV, I don't think you'll regret it.

Yep the 50k tax threshold is definitely applicable to EVs infact it's back dated to last April 2025. And as you say absolutely no pockets in a shroud. Go for it.

Glad to hear it. There are only a few niche use cases in the UK where an EV isn't the better option. (Like people who need to take their skis and a caravan all the way to the alps in no more than nine hours for some reason).

Hope our little community here has helped you realise that all the FUD (Fear, uncertainty and doubt) about EVs is almost entirely invented.

As others have said, a pre-reg or ex-demo will be better value, if you can make that happen.

But I've just discovered that the twin motor version is insurance group 42
Consequently, I'll need to get a quote before going any further with this idea.
I guess 0-62mph in 5 secs kinda makes it a performance vehicle? But surely it isn't super desirable to steal. In the same way that say a Porsche would be? So where do they get group 42 from?

To put that into perspective, my HS PHEV is group 27.

And double annoying because there's some cracking deals on a new twin motor S6 via Car Wow

But it's looking like my HS PHEV will be staying.
Which isn't really a bad thing. I do love it & it does exactly what I need.
However, I have now realised that with my annual mileage being so low. A full EV would make perfect sense

It will be in shreds and you'll have find a different pub to drink at so they don't rubbish you relentlessly .... but on the upside, you'll still be able to afford a pint where the other ICE addicts will be limited to water from the bottle they bring with them and fill up in the loo from the wash basin

Apparently a PHEV only makes me gay curious?
So any switch to a full EV will undoubtedly make me a full on shirt lifter in their eyes!

My mate's a biker and full blown petrol head and is in the process of converting a barn into his home complete with solar panels and some form of heat exchanger for the heating.
I gave him and his partner a lift in my MGS5 and stuck it in sport mode to accelerate off an island. She became a giggling heap in the back seat and a couple of swear words were emitted from the passenger seat. He's now seriously thinking of getting an EV when the build is completed.

It's not just the group thing a lot of insurers don't have the dual motor on their listings.
