Has anybody had this problem? It has happened a few times with me. I turn the car on and everything boots up as normal but the main infotainment screen fails to light up. It has also suddenly switched off whilst driving a couple of times. This worries me, if I was using the sat nav then that could cause problems. On one occasion I drove to my dealer when it failed to light up and showed them. They took it into the workshop and, as you would guess, it turned on just as it went in. They checked all the connections but could do little else. It has happened a couple of times since then. The heater and AC still work but you cant see the settings on screen. The radio will not work. Anybody else had this??

If it were me, the first thing I'd try is charging the 12 volt battery.....especially if the car has not been used much.

Sounds like a loose connection, maybe the plugs into the radio were fine and tight but did they try electrical test on the wires going into them, perhaps one is slightly broken and only being held together by the installation outer wire.
Or second try the neg/pos earth battery connection, i have taken mine off and put back on again after fitting a battery Roco charging lead indicator, the one thing which surprised me there is no code on the radio, just turns straight back on etc.

The 12v battery is up to full voltage OK, it is in use less at the moment but it still gets used about every other day. The tech at the dealer checked that all connections where fully up to scratch as he also thought about the connections and wire contact. He was 100% that they where OK. As it had come back on again as it went into the workshop he could find nothing else wrong so we had to leave it at that in the hope that he had sorted it by checking the connections. However, it has happened since but not as often. I just wish it would either fail completely or get a grip and keep going!!

Intermittent faults are always a pain in bum, no matter what car it is. Very difficult to identify possible dodgy wiring or connectors... good luck, if they cant get to the bottom of it quickly I'd be tempted to look at returning the car!

I know this sounds ridiculous but try giving the unit a heavy tap next time it fails. I have an Idle air valve on my old Merc that has been playing up for years. I tried everything that was known to me and also accepted wisdom on a Merc forum but nothing fixed it until recently a specialist showed me how to tap the item when it wasn’t working correctly to prove its at fault. I need a new one at £750, ouch !!

Yes, have tried this. No joy. I strongly suspect it is an intermittent fault on the unit circuits, and as Chrispydoc said, intermittent faults are a right pain. I just hope it either goes away completely or stays for good so I can take it back and get it changed under warranty. Otherwise, I have to say, the car is brilliant. Being able to leave the boy racers languishing on the traffic lights in their smelly/noisy BMW's wondering how an old codger in a silly little MG can move so fast gives me a great thrill. The wife however, thinks otherwise!!

When I first got mine, I was chatting to chum who had just bought an older V8 landrover, he was telling me how quick it was......on the way home we ended up side by side on a duel carriage way, when the lights changed....I floored it...he tried his best, but came nowhere ....it was only when I was nearly home I realised I was still in Eco mode!?

I have the same problem with mine. I have also noticed a red and green screensaver like net appear on the bottom 30mm of the screen just before it goes black. Mine appears to go off then it's like a fast reboot and it's back on again. I have also occasionally had the reduced volume in reverse not work but when I select drive the volume then reduces. I haven't been to the dealer with it yet but I will when they open again. Rear centre seatbelt warning bongs when 2 adults are sitting on the back seat with middle seat empty.

I'm Having very simply problems with the screen going blank completely, but with radio still playing, have to leave car 20 minutes powered down for it to work againand for sat nav to work, this has happened several times, now got it booked into garage on 9th July> Lucky I have filmed this and sent to garage before hand, thinking would the comfort update sort this problem?

Please let the forum know what’s said as lots of other have suffered with the infotainment system, seems that it could be a software issue rather than electrical errors

Took the MG into the dealers to sort out random electrical problems mainly with the android auto and screen going blank also now tapping from the sunroof when open under the cars warranty.
Picked up the courtesy car and was told that's £20 for admin fees (was not happy)
The technician said the faults are only covered under warranty if they can replicate the faults, I have emailed then 15 videos of the faults because of the randomness which happed over a 4 week period, but they said "that does not matter as they have to replicate them". Is this right? or am I being taken for a ride.
The technician said the faults could be down to my phone, but I have tried two phones from two different manufactures and still the same random problems even when the phones not connected, how can they replicate the random faults without my phones?
waiting for a call from the garage, lets see what happens.

The garage had the car for 2 days when I got the call late Friday, all done you can pick up, So Saturday morning drove to the garage and was told the cars done . The technician said "they spent 6 hours on the car tiring to fine the faults" (which were random), he said there were faults showing up on the logs, so they just reset the computers, because they couldn't replicate the faults and said its properly the devices I'm plugin to the car, mobile phones, and Ipod, I now carry around my old TomTom because can't rely on the infotainment screen working, also no updates done on car.

Camera and radar were checked for alignment and ok

The sunroof make a banging/tapping noise when open, this I filmed by sticking a go pro to the sunroof to record, but this evidence is no good because the technician cant replicate the sound by driving the car for 5 minutes, I did say get in the car me in the front and him in the back and you I will hear the sound, but he refused because of social distancing. They said after specking to MG that I will have to wait until its happening more often, So if the sunroof cracks because of the movement and banging will MG cover under the warranty as glass is not, he Said MG will have a record of the banging so should replace, But how can they have a record if they don't believe me or the video footage.

The MG warranty is a shame as it they cant replicate the fault or faults, they will not act.
I was not happy with technician although he said his hand are tried by MG, so called MG warranty.
Will See if resetting the computers make any difference to the infotainment system.
Has anyone else had a banging/tapping sound when the sunroof is open, going normal around a right bend and a bit of a bumpy road? does not happen all the time but once it start it usually there till you close the roof.

Can you go to another dealer and get a 2nd opinion on this concerns or at least phone another MG dealership?

@Andrew,
Sorry for your bad experience.
Unfortunately, it seems not all the MG dealers are up to a basic good quality customer service. It is worth asking elsewhere at another dealer

I've not heard that sound. It does sound like something in the sunroof cassette isn't screwed down tight.

Unfortunately my experience of dealer mechanics/technicians over the last few decades has been on the whole they are mediocre at anything beyond basic servicing tasks.

My own ZS developed a loose steering column and rattly a pillar trim. I found and repaired both defects myself as I frankly wouldn't trust a dealer tech. to have done the job properly, especially the dis-assembly and re-assembly of the lower dash plastics which is not straightforward and requires a high level of care to avoid damage. (The plastics used on this car seem more brittle than I've experienced on western built cars!) From previous experience, I know their would have been a high chance of collateral damage if a dealer had been at it, then the arguing and further visits start... life is just too short for it!

Sorry, I'm veering off topic! I wish you well with getting the problem sorted. If you were local to me I'd look at it for you.

the infototainment system appears to generally slow when connecting to apple car play , took ages to play songs on spotify.
