Ncap failure for mg3 hybrid ,

Mg3 hybrid failed on seat latch mechanism not securing individual in a head on collision.

For more information please go on the internet and look for auto express, this will give you more information.

Hi I would imagine there will be a recall for this issue, as the car would be deemed not fit for purpose consumer's rights and all that good stuff.?
It would appear not.

Euro NCAP said it had never witnessed a failure of this kind in its 28 years of crash testing.

"MG has promised to tweak the airbag in October, Euro NCAP said. However, the seat and airbag changes won't be applied to 3s that have already been delivered to customers since the model's launch last year"

Here is the link mentioned to save you searching for it. What is worrying is that MG clearly state if you already own a car, tough! Future ones won't have this dangerous failure in design.
I purchased a 2025 1.5 manual just 3 weeks ago, I would never hand bought it had I known about this serious issue,
I intend to invoke my short term right to reject.

Do we know is if this applies to the 2005 MG3 manual? I’m thinking it probably does.

It's an absolute shocker by MG UK not doing a recall on the models already out there on a failure never seen by ncap before in 28 yrs of testing.

Insurance companies could have a field day with this if people get into crashes and get injured, they look for any excuse not to pay out as it is

Aled Williams, from NCAP, said the following:

"This fault has been reported to the relevant Type-Approval authorities so consideration can be given as to whether a vehicle recall should be issued."

I certainly hope they do carry out a recall as apart from the obvious safety issue I imagine this will affect the resale value of our cars.

Let's wait and see what MG do. If there is a fault then I think they will do a recall, but it's going to cost them. Does anyone know how many have been sold around the world?

Do they know for sure it was a design defect and not a manufacturing/material problem specific to the car under test?
It was a manufacturing design fault so MG will have to do a recall. Seemingly what I've been told is only applies to cars that were built before August this year , not registered?

There is a fault they have already said there is and they are modifying the areas where the faults exist and their current stance is only on new cars.

The government body dvsa will force MG to do a recall if deemed unsafe, MG can say what they want if they fail to act dvsa will force a mandatory recall, that's how it works in the UK .
