I park my mg3 hybrid+ in my garage, but due to space limitation, and making it easier to get out of the car, I have to put a degree of wheel lock on just before final position. However, when I get back in to the car I get a message “return steering wheel to neutral position”. Surely if I leave the car parked at an angle, I need to reduce the lock as I slowly reverse out. Starting with with straight wheels could be problematic.

It's just a warning, to let you know that "the wheels aren't straight."
At every parking lot, replica.

A good idea, but surely the fact that the steering wheel is not in the straight ahead position is a bit of a clue 🤷🏻.
Has the steering wheel actually locked at this offset angle ?.
I think it’s unlikely tbh.
This maybe how it knows how / when to give out the warning message 🤷🏻.

No the steering wheel doesn’t lock. It’s just a few degrees to give me a bit more room to open the door wide enough to get out. I just don’t like turning the wheels when stationary.

I always reverse onto my curved driveway, and leave the car with left hand lock. The steering wheel is horizontal to fit my Stoplock so I get the warning when I start up. Nothing to worry about, it's just letting you know the front wheels aren't straight 👍

This is likely why you are getting the warning message then, with the wheel in the straight ahead position, the steering lock will engage.
So, because the wheels are slightly turned, the lock is not engaged,.
The car probably understands this and flags it as warning on start up.
It is just reminding you of the fact.

Now thats strange, I park on the "squiff" in our garage, as I need a bit more room to get out, the steering wheel is never straight ahead, but I have never had that notification come up.

I think I get the warning because my steering wheel is 360° off straight, but the road wheels are almost on full left lock. I drive away in this position to negotiate my curved driveway.
