Hi Locally we have a number of Bring Your Own Cable Chargers at big box stores and retail parks etc.
I most cases they are free, my kind of recharge.
Has anyone any suggestions regarding the type 2 to type 2 cable I should buy
What is the best length we seem to have two options 5 and 7 metres
Are the Ali Express ones worth looking at
Thanks for your help
Stuart

I would say match it to your On-Board Charger. For example if it's a 6.6kW OBC, get a 7kW cable (32A, single phase). Though if you have an 11kW OBC and some of the chargers in your area are single phase 32A, then a matching cable (16A three phase) will be annoying, as that gives you just 3.6kW! Depending on how often that happens, it might be worth going for a 22kW cable (32A and 3 phase).

I have 5 metre cables, and they've always been far longer than necessary. I considered a 3 metre cord for my second EV, but chickened out. I doubt you'd ever need a 7 metre cord, but things may be different in your locality (I'm in South East Queensland, Australia).

I am not sure what Type 2 to Type 2 cable to buy. 32 Amp 3 phase or 32 amp 1 phase. I live in South East Queensland/ Northern NSW and the Chargefox app recommended by MG seems to suggest that cables are needed at quite a few charging points on my route (M1 Byron-Brisbane).

I mainly intend to granny charge in Brisbane and Byron, but don't want to get caught short.

What is the maximum power transfer - Is it 400V * 32 amp = 12.8 kW (notional)?

Tragbares EV-Ladekabel, 32 A, 22 kW, 3-phasiges Elektroauto-Ladegerät, 3,5 kW, 16 A, 1-phasiges EVSE-Kit, EV-Kabel Typ 2 auf Typ 2 IEC62196-2 - AliExpress 34

This has four options. Thanks,

Check the specs for your car. Is it 7, 11, or 22kW inverter?

User manual or MG website maybe.

Single phase only in Oz, so that's the 7kW cable.

My work place has free 22kW charging in the car park - does this mean I am not able to use these devices at 22kW (perhaps I can, but will only draw 7kW with a 3 phase cable).

The MG4 manual is silent in the tech specs and charging section on this, and am not sure where to look on the website.

Thanks

The 22kW charger is wired for 32A on all 3 phases. With an appropriate cable you will draw 32A on a single phase with your Essence 64.

You could buy a 22kW 3 Phase cable but you only need a 7kW single phase cable. That being said, I'd just get a 32A 3 Phase one as I can't see any single phase ones particularly cheaper and the cable will work with 3 Phase capable cars if you get one in the future.

Amazon Australia stocks a number of them.

This would work just fine...

That's true (not sure about the costs), but note that the three phase cable is significantly heavier, bulkier, and awkward to use as the cable is so stiff.

So I would instead recommend a single phase 32A cable (7kW).

If you do end up with a three phase capable car in future, it's (at this stage) likely to be an 11kW type, so for the same reasons as above, you would want a 16A three phase cable. The chances of coming across a single phase AC public "charger" near Brisbane seems quite low. If this was not the case, for the three phase car you would want the 32A three phase cable after all, since single phase 16A is no fun when travelling.
