Unlooping and other bits

Had my charger installed at an eye watering price it should have had a ct clamp and load limiting according to paper work (wasn’t overly bothered as it’s done dead of night only - not hitting the limits). Been nearly a year since the unloop request. Next door works for the DNO but not on overhead supplies so is jiggling it on his side apparently. How long should I wait before kicking off ?

Next as the installer never fitted the clamp, I can’t hoover up spare solar properly (not getting paid for export yet) so figured I’d chase it up. I think installer was lazy. How in trouble would they get if I have any issue with them not doing it ?

What exactly was in your contract?

There was no contract but I have copies of the application to DNO and it states load limited. Only way to do that on specific charger is with the clamp.

I would certainly get the CT clamp fitted.
If you load shift your DW and WM and immersion heater plus other stuff to overnight you may hit the limit of your 60A fuse.

As a matter of interest, what type of cable has been used to feed the EVSE? If it already contains cores for a CT feed the job of connection is trivial but if it doesn't, there's an additional cable to run, enter and connect.

This house is very weird. We actually have a 100amp fuse (there is an additional sticker on the carrier that is 100amp, not just the carrier rating label). Most say it should be smaller but it isn’t. Next door have a smaller fuse afaik - not sure if they did it because they are 100% overhead with 4 fairly chunky cables into the service head but it was done in 09 - before my time . Next door run on bottled gas too.

I’m pretty sure it’s just standard stuff without the cores (let’s face it if they omitted fitting the clamp they probably skimped on the cable - the clamp is included in the box from what I see). The fitter is trying to get another so we shall see apparently.

Finally got on to western power, well national grid. The plot thickens like my moose.

Their unlooping request was closed hence it’s been nearly a year. Apparently an email was never responded to. Asked them about which email - they forwarded it and it was one that needed no response and after that an engineer came out (Sept 11th 2023). So apparently have to get on to the local unit and should have a response in 2 working days.

With the new storage heaters in and obviously there will be winter thought it prudent to chase.

Well….. apparently they won’t string a new cable to next door from the transformer so it’ll be a lot longer job doing it underground (none of the houses are fed underground). Ct clamp is on now.

Is that a thing now where they will only do underground ?

I hear there may be more hiccups. Assuming they will leave me alone as my charger is load limited, it’s not coming down that’s for sure. Doesn’t bode well for if next door want a charger (apparently they will next year).

My charger will clip the charge down a bit if the immersion heater, washer and dishwasher coincide but nothing noticeable with those loads. Storage heaters may be an issue in the winter (won’t be using them tbh).
