V2G to be approved in Australia 2025

I've just received the quote for removing old installation and installing new istore 5kW system for just over $4,000, and a 7kW charger for just under $2,000
Seems reasonable to me, any thoughts?

My mate says he'll buy the 5 year old 3kW system off me, but I've no idea what to charge a mate?

Synergy also has an EV add-on (looks like a proper plan to me tbh) but you need to have an EV registered to the address that the plan is active on.

I’ve not bothered with this yet as we can’t have an EVSE at the apartment and the builder reckons they’ll have the house ready end of September.

$2000 is probs not too bad if it includes installation (I’m assuming it does).

This might be a silly question, but if your system is 5kW, would you be able to put 7kW into the car of pure solar?

Would you get anything back from whoever is removing the old system? That might give you an idea of what good mates-rates would be

The Synergy time of day plan was pretty bad for my current situation (solar only), but once I have the battery, it's definitely worth looking into again.
Definitely not a good plan with solar PV only.

You couldn't give that away here, indeed you'd need to pay someone to take it away for recycling. The inverter is useless, except for someone who has same one which has failed and they need a like for like replacement while panels won't be allowed to be installed on another home in a grid-tied system as they won't be on the CEC accredited list any more.

Unless it's off-grid kit, then it has some value.

I have nearly 9 kW of solar PV in the shed, 20 kWh of sealed lead acid in very good condition and 15 kWh of LFP also in great knick. Going to be very hard to sell it with the new rebates. New stuff is just going to be so much better value and cheaper than DIY.

This seems on topic, since it uses DC output, I wonder what the chances are that the MG4 will be added to the list in future?

I think it shouldn’t be too hard on the software side of things, but as others have pointed out before (may have been in other threads) it might impact the warranty on the battery, as in, MG doesn’t want you to do V2X with your current 10 year warranty, so they might just say “soz mg4 doesn’t do that, buy our next car instead”.

It would be super sweet though if they did enable it on the MG4. And while I’m dreaming, do the update OTA 😆

If I remember correctly from three years ago, and if I understood the solar salesperson correctly, Western Power (or maybe its synergy) lets you have a little bit more PV capability than your inverter is rated for, something like 10kW PV with an 8kW inverter, and then if you have a battery, you can have a little more PV again, so you can bump that up to 12kW on the same inverter. But like I said this was years ago when we started our first attempt at building a house, so who knows what I’ve forgotten, and who knows what may have changed since.
