What’s the very first CD you bought / got?

First vinyl I bought was T.Rex by T.Rex and I bought is as a 12 year old because my mate said I looked like the guy on the cover :) It would be six months before I was able to play it because we didn't have a record player.

My first CD was Metallica by Metallica and once again I didn't have a CD player but got the vinyl at the same time.

During the 00's I gave away over 3000 vinyl albums because I had zero need for them.
Ten years later I could have got a fortune when people started collecting vinyl - I have no idea why.

There has been a big shift to recording vinyl to audio files with very high definition via a computer that cuts the scratches but enriches the actual sound.
You can then become your own audio engineer and create what you want to hear for your own personal take on what you believe is better than the original

So just get the uncompressed files in the first place.
I've converted 100s of vinyl to PC using Sound Forge and Audio Restoration plugins and then realised it was pointless.

With Audacity you can manually rewrite the waveform, but you need to know what the waveform should look like! Or you can cut and past a very similar part of the waveform if it is a repeating phrase. Extremely time consuming though, if there are a lot of problems.

I've used Audacity since it's conception (and used it today after a gig) but compared to the industry standard Sound Forge they are chalk and cheese.
If I just want to cut/join WAV files I'll use Audacity, if I want a proper job then it's Sound Forge.
Mind you my DAWs like Cakewalk Sonar, Pro Logic and Presonus Studio One 7 also do a great job with the 100s of VST plugins I have.
There's one particular VST called Lurssen Mastering Control which produces magic.
