Hi all,

Any one with the face lift having problems with the built in sat nav. When I start the car the location is right. But when I start driving it doesn't show any movement on the map. I use carplay so not a big deal but wondered if anyone has had similar issues and if they managed to fix it?

Will probably call the dealer next week (when I get a chance). I have s trophy for what it is worth.

Thanks. Didn't spot that thread. Will give it a try in the morning
this worked for me today, hold the physical home lever button down, screen will go blank but keep holding until the mg logo appears

Unfortunately hasn't worked for me. I tried it before setting off and again whilst driving. Both times the map updates to the current location but then stops moving. I seem to remember there has already been an update to the infotainment software. Will need to check with the dealer of it has be updated or not. Thanks for the help though.

had same issue. Dealership hadn't a clue. However after much perseverance I found the issue. Go to sat nav, then settings, then map features. Turn off "dead reckoning". Then reset info system by pushing down and holding the physical home button not the one on the screen. Hold it till the MG emblem comes back on then release. Hey presto the sat nav will now work

Does anyone know how to update the maps on the new long range trophy

The method is not the same as on the old one.

If you insert a blank USB into the car and go to update, it will not transfer anything to the USB, it will just complain that there are no MAP, VR or electronic manual data on the USB key.

I just wrote the seller and asked him, but today and tomorrow are holidays here, so i will not get an answer before tuesday at the earliest.

Mine was delivered with Q3 2020 maps, which seems a bit poor to be honest.

Do we know for sure, that map updates are actually free ?

I am going to "demand" that i get the latest maps installed, if they want to charge me for map updates.

The maps should be up to date when the car is delivered, in my opinion.

Yes I agree. I have now twigged that it is a Here maps file now but where or how you get it is currently one of the mysteries of the East. I know that the Trophy connect is supposed to get free updates for three years but that implies that the SE and the Trophy are paid for, but no idea where to get them from.

Yeah, i am looking forward to getting an answer from the dealer about the map update.

Hopefully i will have an answer Tuesday.

But as said, i am not THAT bothered about it, i will probably be using AA Wireless with some sort of dongle and google maps. As said, the navigation does not "speak" Danish, and when it tries to say street names, it does a really poor job. :)

I am sure I have seen in one of the many vids a button that's says update in the settings of the setup of sat nav what happens when this is pushed?

It looks for a file on a USB. No idea where you get said file from, it certainly isn’t Naviextras, as that is the wrong company.
And looking at HereNow's webpage you can select your car brand, but MG is not among those you can select.

I suspect that the reason is, you need to buy map updates from MG, on a stick.

This was what was needed for the navi in my previous car (Mine did not have it but those who did) and this was a USB stick with new maps, and it had to be ordered to a specific car, as it would need some "keyfile" on the stick.

Someone tried sticking it into another car, than the one it was bought for, and the infotainment refused to update, stating that the keyfile was invalid.

Offcourse to make sure it would not be one bloke byuing it and then everyone could download the contents off of a pirate site and update their own.

Even back in the good old garmin days 10+ years ago, they used keys to protect their maps (Someone hacked it and made a keygenerator though :) )

I can't see them making much money out of it as everyone will just switch to Android Auto or Apple Carplay
Yes i agree, and this was the exact reason i opted to NOT get the navi version, of the previous car i owned.

It is hard to compete with google maps, especially because they update their maps automatically and all the time.

With built in satnav, you need to get updates, that at best is made once every 3 months, but in reality, if they are a paid upgrade, will only be released once a year.

I also never understood why they think they can get money for map updates, when even a £70 Garmin or Tomtom, comes with a lifetime of updates.

Unless there is a firmware upgrade for the infotainment that enables Wireless Android Auto, i am just going to buy a dongle (Motorola MA1, AAWireless or similar) and use that, with google maps.

This also doubles as a streaming radio, i dont want to listen to terrestrial radio here, as there are not good channels, so streaming is the way. The Amazon streaming cost money, so that is out of the question, as i have a music streaming service that comes "free" with my company paid mobile subscription.

And they just bumped the dataplan to 30GB a month....And all of that 30GB is usable in the whole of the EU, so i am unlikely to run out, even on a 2 week holiday the southern europe :)

Do you know how to update the sat nav map ? I have the same car and the map is old on the car.
