electricity

Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter that has a property of electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equations. Various common phenomena are related to electricity, including lightning, static electricity, electric heating, electric discharges and many others.
The presence of either a positive or negative electric charge produces an electric field. The movement of electric charges is an electric current and produces a magnetic field.
In most applications, a force acts on a charge with a magnitude given by Coulomb's law. Electric potential is typically measured in volts.
Electricity is at the heart of many modern technologies, being used for:

Electric power where electric current is used to energise equipment;
Electronics which deals with electrical circuits that involve active electrical components such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, and associated passive interconnection technologies.Electrical phenomena have been studied since antiquity, though progress in theoretical understanding remained slow until the 17th and 18th centuries. The theory of electromagnetism was developed in the 19th century, and by the end of that century electricity was being put to industrial and residential use by electrical engineers. The rapid expansion in electrical technology at this time transformed industry and society, becoming a driving force for the Second Industrial Revolution. Electricity's extraordinary versatility means it can be put to an almost limitless set of applications which include transport, heating, lighting, communications, and computation. Electrical power is now the backbone of modern industrial society.

What percentage SoC does the electricity meter equate to?

The MG ZS Excite EV 2019 displays the current battery charge status on the car’s display using a meter of up to eight bar segments. So when only the first bar segment is illuminated, does this mean that the battery charge level could be anything from 12.5 % to just under 25 %? Similarly 25 % to...

    Warm Rcd?

My first time charging. Using a granny charger. I read it should be used in conjunction with an rcd protector. After half an hour the rcd is warm. Is this as it should be or should I plug directly into the socket (which is cold)? According to the ismart app it is drawing 1.8kW.

    MG 4 charging

I posted a couple of weeks ago about the fact that I had suddenly stopped being able to use Intelligent Octopus Go as connection had been lost and it wouldn't reconnect. To try to sort it out, I would ring Octopus who would be utterly charming and tell me they were escalating it but nothing...

    When to charge?

I normally charge on cheap overnight tariff. Tomorrow, Sunday, the difference in price between day/night tariff is 2.5 cents/kwh, and I want to put in 30 kwh of juice. The daytime temperature is around 11°C and night time -2°C. Would the subsequent increase in energy heating up the battery and...

Is my MG4 miles/kWh trying to gaslight me?

I know the mi/kWh in winter should be worse. But since my last charge to about 80%, it estimated about 3.4 miÔ/kWh and I had covered about 50 miles and it was about 38%. I then charged to about 86%. Just didn’t sound right to me so I broke out the calculator. Ok so I charged with 29kWh and...

    Time to ditch Octopus Agile?

I’ve been on Agile for about 20 months. I use about 6kwh per day in the house and use about 80kwh pcm charging my car. Until recently t’s been relatively simple to avoid heavy electricity use during Agile peak hours of 1600-1900 daily. Cheap, free or even paid for electricity is a bonus but the...

    Octopus Go times?

I have been on Octopus Go for the best part of 2 years. The cheap rate was for 4 hours 00.30 - 04.30. I noticed today on the Octopus app, it states 5 hours, 00.30 - 05.30. When did that happen? I had no idea.
