Moderation and moderators

About moderation in the forums, the moderators and their decisions

What are moderators?

Moderators are forum members who volunteer their time to help maintain a friendly, spam-free community. Since they are unpaid volunteers, we hope that our membership will support them in their work.
Moderators are tasked with applying our forum rules.

Moderators are usually invited. If you would like to volunteer to be a moderator, the best way is to be an outstandingly helpful member and wait to be invited.

If you want to nominate a member who you think would make a good moderator, please send a private message to a moderator of a forum they frequent.

How do I contact a Moderator ?

To contact a moderator, you need to start a conversation with them.
If you know the name of the moderator you wish to contact then you should open your conversations page, start a conversation and type the moderator's name into the recipient box. Click here to open your conversations page.

If you don't know the name of the moderator to contact, you can navigate to the forum relevant to your issue and click the Moderators link. This link is above the thread list of all forums.
The list of moderators shows the most recently online at the top. Start a conversation with one of the moderators in the list.

What are yellow and red cards?

We have a system in place using the concept of yellow and red cards to represent warnings given to members for breaking the forum rules.

A yellow card will be given to a member for breaking rule 1 when insulting other members or groups of people. We may occasionally issue yellow cards in other circumstances.
The yellow card is displayed on a member's profile only to the member and moderators.

In addition a member with a yellow card will have all their new posts and post edits subject to moderator consideration prior to them being published. That means, of course, that there may be a delay between the post/edit being submitted and it appearing on the forum. Posts will continue to be reviewed for content and warnings may be applied if necessary, even if the posts have never been published.

If a member with a yellow card continues to post in a similar manner, they may then be given a red card. No red card is displayed on the member's profile. The yellow card will remain visible.
The same posting restriction will apply, but a red card will usually result in posting privileges permanently removed from the member in a specific thread and/or forum.

The moderation restriction will last for the same period as the Card Warning itself - currently 3 months from the date of issue of the most recent warning.
