Just had my two year 30000 mile service £220. I asked what extra was done for the additional £130 from the £90 1st service I was told brake fluid change, pollen filter and key fob battery replacement, which is what a member of the forum said, but when he checked these had never been done, so he complained got a full refund and the service done properly. I checked my car before the service. The brake fluid was slightly low, now on max, the pollen filter has been changed, but the fob battery has not. I think the fluid was topped up and not replaced as the bleed nipples are all dry. And a £1.70 charge for topping up screen wash even though I brimmed it before I took it in. I think £220 is expensive as everyone says ev service is cheap compared to ice vehicles. Last years service took 1.5 hrs as did todays, so labour costs the same, total of filter, fluid and battery was £57 so £73 extra to the dealer for what?.

Did you ask what the cost would be before the service?

No, the dealer I normally use has gone out of business, so I was in a rush to get it serviced to keep the warranty. If that is the price all dealers charge ok, but it's no cheaper than an ice car.

That sounds like proper rip-off territory !

Thanks for this, as when the need arises for me, i will ask for video footage of draining down the system and bleeding etc.

I do not mind paying the going rate for things to be done, but will go mental for things being paid for and not done!

Reminds me of a mate of mine over two decades ago who questioned his bill at a garage for a service he had undertaken. They listed spark plugs on his receipt, yet the car was a diesel.

He was a bit of a handy lad at the time, and ended up not paying a penny, or he would report the garage.

Seems everywhere in life, there is always a little bugger out there to try and rip oneself off.

I should add, that Toyota do indeed send you a link to the video they produce following a service of your car. Had a couple now, and it is a very welcome relief. Maybe MG could take a leaf out of Toyota book

I agree, at the last service I was told the ns front tyre was dangerous as the wire was showing on the inside, I looked when I got home it was perfect, no mention on todays service. This is why I checked everything before I took the car today.

I did get a vid but just showed checking the tyres, and under the car looking for leaks.

I got one from Luscombes of my ZS 1st service although as there was not a lot to do, it concentrated on tyre tread & brake pads iirc

This is where a service plan helps, you spread the cost so it isn't such a shock (no pun intended!) - although not sure how it works if the dealer is no longer here there?

Do all MG dealers use the same service plan provider (like EMaC)?

My MG5 is serviced by the Hyundai garage next to it as they are part of the same dealership and they video the underside of the car.

There are many different providers of service plans, EMac are probably the biggest and best know, a lot of retailers will also self fund the service plan, if you have a service plan with someone like Emac and the retailer you use has closed you can contact the service plan provider and get a refund (you will have to pay an admin fee) as all your doing is paying monthly to build a fund, it’s still your money until you have the service, also you may also be able to just get the plan transferred to your new retailer if they use the same company.

Well I've just been quoted £262.63 for second service by MG Richmond Portsmouth., Utterly ridiculous - all they are doing is changing the pollen filter and topping up the brake fluid and running through a check list. They know they will lose money as electric vehicles are so much easier to service, so they are trying to maintain an impression it costs this. Has anyone else had a 2nd Service at Richmond Portsmouth and had the same experience ? I am probably going elsewhere but still stunned at this rip-off practic.e.

That’s about the right price for a second service. Probably the same price at all MG dealers. I guess you could try servicing it yourself if your not happy with going to the professionals 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I had full oil and air filter change, full service, additional Axle oil changed and head light lenses sanded and cleaned and UV protected on a 1998 Z3 (2.8) plus a full set of Spark plugs and an MOT for £250.00. Admittedly not from a BMW franchise, but I am with Mazzy here. I find that cost totally unreasonable and fly’s in the face of all the people arguing, that no worries about electric going up in price per KW, the servicing are as cheap as chips!

Ummm……..
