The problem is usually with the server which communicates with the car.

I have found just loging out then back in helps

N2sty tried that now my location is in Belgium and completely not working. Have logged out completely now . Can’t be bothered with the hassle
Sorry this was for the try later problem
Have you tried the factory reset in the menu?
Is you clock on auto?
Have you put your car in ready mode recently?

I delete the App, then reload it ( Android) , then relog in. Not a frequent event but does occasionally happen that it gets stuck and won't work. Have had to do the same with my Hypervolt charger app a couple of times which I have had for 6 months, the car 8 months.

Yes I decided to log out completely and reinstall app it has worked and is fine now
Looks like we may all have to this occasionally. A bit of a pain but still very happy with My zs ev Trophy

This has happened to me this morning. Working fine last night, woke this morning and nothing is connecting at all in the app. Tried deleting it and reinstalling but still nothing yet. Car is fine, charged overnight and wife is using it today ok. Is there anything else to try other than wait?

. . . and it’s fixed itself. Very strange.

This is a common problem that I and many others have had. Mine was solved by resetting the time to Sydney time (I’m in Adelaide). Binding my car to the app, then resetting the time to Adelaide time. I don’t know if this is any use to you. Ken

Mine is exactly the same I’ve had problems intermittently since I got the car however when I got a puncture the other day it sprung into action and was really useful with notifications

There is a complex algorithm that IT specialists have to memorise and use frequently with any software or harware system. It's called SIOAOA. Thats pronounced "sioaoa" and stands for :-

Switch it Off and On Again.

Now seriously most phones have probably never been fully turned off during there entire customer ownership. They might have been "Restarted" but that seldom clears the cache from memory. I have had problems that have been resolved by just turning off the phone completely for a few minutes and then turning it back on. You will know its doing something different as all apps will be checked and optimised just like when the operating system is upgraded.
I have had similar problems as mentioned here with MG iSmart and the process I go through is (in order of pain) :-

  1. Restart the MG iSmart app
  2. Temporarily turn off WiFi and use 4G if that gives a better signal.
  3. Just wait for a while and try again 30 minutes upwards. If none of these work.
  4. Turn the phone off and back on again. If none of these work then
  5. Log off in the MG iSmart app and log back in. (I presume you have saved the password etc.
  6. Lastly reconnect the phone to the car (this can be a real faff and the reason I try to avoid it).
  7. Abandon all hope and contact your dealer. (the good ones will be able to check with MG and detach your phone for reconection, or find another solution that works).
Fortunately I have never had to contact my dealer on this issue usually resolving any problems by step 4. Unfortunately, in my experience software and hardware issues are now very common across all modern ICE and EV cars simply because of the complexity.

I read this and wanted to add that in the ISMART app, when I click find my car, it sometimes thinks I’m in Belgium too. I’ve deduced that this happens when the car can’t connect to the server. This happens to me at home because my car is parked underground and there’s no signal down there. Generally, out and about, in areas of good network coverage, it knows where the car is.

Thankyou for this tip!!!! It may help me with a problem I regularly have getting my EO app to talk to my building's EO Hub EVSE.

Mine seems to be kaput too. Tried logging out and in again, no change. Must be a server-side problem.

Having just read some reviews of the app, it’s also probable that the app doesn’t connect to the car if the car has been idle for more than 24 hours. Car needs unlocking with key to ‘wake it up’. And coincidentally I haven’t used the car since Sunday, so it would appear this is the case.

While not unique to MG, putting the vehicle into deep sleep after only 24 hours seems a little restrictive to me. Or at least give us the option to extend this timeframe? Probably something to do with preserving 12v charge level I suspect.

Confirmed: I’m currently at work, got one of my kids to unlock the car parked at home using the fob, and voila the app comes back to life and connects to the car.
