I use the obdlink LX but also have one of the Vgate Amazon/eBay cheap ones that I use for Leafspy on the wife's car and that works fine too. The obdlink is just a lot more secure..
Mine are secured with 2 screws like a normal UK plate would plus sticky pads. The 2 screws alone would be fine but being an oversized plate, the pads add the extra support
As gomev said, I used sticky pads for the lower half. The Chinese mountings protrude slightly so the pads take up the excess and allow for a cleaner fit

Successful update on my 72 plate PFL Exclusive yesterday while in for 2 year service - no additional charge.
Tested this morning and all worked fine though speed seemed to peak at 37kW - maybe because I only left it 5 mins as a test charge but still OK given potential cost savings
