    Say Hello

Hi Eclectic, Like you, My first EV was a Zoe and my reasons for changing were similar to yours. Six weeks in & just done 2000 miles on my MG5 I’m more than happy with the brand. As good as the Zoe’s are, the MG’s a big step up- enjoy! 👍

Just a bit of Fun- and a question.

Hi Ian, I have a Creality Ender 3 printer. It can print just over 150mm in any direction and is pretty handy for all sorts of brackets & fixings I used to fabricate or machine on a lathe. I’ve had it about 3 years and it’s been totally reliable. When I bought it, I think it was on offer around...

Just a bit of Fun- and a question.

Right, being a bit nerdy I have a 3D printer and too much time on my hands… Inspired by the old MG BGT badge I created this the other day and printed it out. Ignore the colour, it’s just what was in the printer while I was printing a bracket out. I need to do a bit more experimenting with...

Mythbuster- "Your EV will die if you are stuck on the Motorway"

Yes it takes less energy to maintain a temperature than to heat up. The example I use to use in my surveyor days was a boiled kettle. Fill a jug kettle up, time how long it takes to boil, then 30 seconds later time it to boil again. You can apply the principal to home heating. Can’t remember the...

Mythbuster- "Your EV will die if you are stuck on the Motorway"

Yes- I used the time to finally read the handbook 😂😂😂! And yes, the radio was on all the time- I’m fairly sure the ancillaries draw off the 12 v system. Also spent the time to learn about apple car play and listened to an audiobook off my phone.

Mythbuster- "Your EV will die if you are stuck on the Motorway"

Ok, we've all seen clickbait titles like this one in the usual daily rags. Those of us in the EV community know that if you are stuck on the motorway in traffic &/or cold weather, your car will NOT DIE in 5 mins leaving you to freeze to death. This week, sadly, I had the opportunity to test...

MG5 owners only. Post on here what you think of the car.

Agreed- The one thing I thought I might miss from my previous Zoe was the app & the ability to preheat. In reality when I am setting out in the morning I just start the car & switch the heater on. By the time I get the gate open the car is defrosted & warm!

Adding a Shelly WiFi controller to a Chargemaster Homecharger

Agreed, when I bought my first EV (Zoe) in 2018 I just accepted the bundled offer of a Chargemaster box. TBH it was a fair price and pretty hassle free. In hindsight and a little wiser 12 months on, I would probably gone for a Pod Point unit.

Adding a Shelly WiFi controller to a Chargemaster Homecharger

I haven't seen that one yet, but I did see one by EVM the other day . Up until then I didn't know the grants were going

Adding a Shelly WiFi controller to a Chargemaster Homecharger

Exactly! I emailed BP Chargemaster (and it took them weeks to reply) around June 2021. Given all the wiring was in place and all the electrician would have to do was swap out the box, test and commission, I was expecting maybe £250-£350 as a "loyal" customer. Silly me! With the homecharge grant...

Agreed, but I’ll not hold my breath! If they’re anything like my old home town ( Bolton) council, they’ll make a half ar$ed attempt with little or no maintenance- about as much use as a chocolate teapot😂😂🤣. It seems we’re reliant on supermarkets to install chargers, but they will not be enough...

I've had my MG5 LR Exclusive about 3 weeks now and to date, done about 1200 miles. The verdict? Absolutely love it. Its way better than the Zoe I came from and the extra range really makes a difference. RSPB South Stack Anglesey. Personally, I find it the most comfortable car I've owned in...

Adding a Shelly WiFi controller to a Chargemaster Homecharger

Hi Blogsy, Thanks for that. If nothing else it's interesting to see what's inside these boxes. I've been an inveterate tinkerer all my life and just have to find out what makes things "tick". Next on the to-do list is to fit my dashcam. So far got the power cord fed through the headlining &...

Adding a Shelly WiFi controller to a Chargemaster Homecharger

Got my MG5 Long Range about 3 weeks ago & after 1200 miles absolutely loving it. The one thing I miss from my Zoe is the charge timer, so after seeing the other posts on here & videos on YouTube installing a Shelly L1 in a Rolec, I decided to have a go at “ upgrading” my 2018 Chargemaster home...
