Insurance Renewal time again, any recommendations?

The penalty of getting old. My insurance last year with Admiral was just under £1000, I got a refund of £97 when I changed from my MG5 to a new MG4. renewal quote for this year was just over £1300. After spending an afternoon trawling through the comparison sites the best quote was £1132 with...

    Help me choose my provider

Yes it is a homeSmart Rolec, and has worked OK with my previous MG5 using the ev.energy app. I have recently changed to a MG4 Trophy and the app does not recognise this car, an error message says 'We can't integrate with this car'. My current tariff ends mid-Jan and I would need to change to a...

    Help me choose my provider

My contract with SO Energy expires in January. I have a Rolec wall charger. Which companies should I look at to get an EV tariff? that will work with my Rolec? SO does not do off-peak rates.

    Headlight adjustment for continental driving

I have just bought an MG4 Trophy LR, is there an easy way to adapt the headlights to meet continental requirements? I used the stick-on Eurolight adapters on my MG5, but are they compatible with LED headlights?

The great big insurance rip off

Hi Les, Thanks for the further thoughts re insurance, I have tried reducing annual miles from 10000 to 8000 and also have my wife as a named driver. She is the same age group as me so that doesn't help. I have also increased the excess from £250 to £500. Churchill was one of the 8 companies that...

The great big insurance rip off

Hi Les, Thank you for your comments, unfortunately you raise yet another issue re the economics of EV ownership. I accept that the resale value of my car is around £14k, this means that in 23 months the value has dropped by almost £20K or about £870 a month. A very expensive luxury to have...

The great big insurance rip off

You are quite right about travel insurance, my current 12 month Europe is just over £800, I shudder to think what the renewal will be in a couple of months time.

The great big insurance rip off

I bought my MG5 almost two years ago, original insurance cost £840, the second year I was quoted £1250 but after searching the web got it down to £945. This year I was quoted £2523 by a comparison site, others were £2407 and £2431. Most of the main insurers refused to quote - I am 86! I do...

    Strange warning message

I was driving down the A34 with CC set at 60, one passenger and a fairly heavy boot load - going on holiday. For no apparent reason I got the chime warning and a message "Please hold wheel", never seen this before - or since. There were several repeated warnings, eventually it came up in red...

    Dead car

Just had a similar issue, went to get in the car this morning, no reaction to the unlock button, checked the key fob battery was OK, opened car with manual key - completely dead inside. Tried the 'Undo negative battery connector' trick - nothing. Connected trickle charger to battery, with neg...

    MG5 mark 1 charging

We have recently travelled with Brittany Ferries, Portsmouth - Caen and return, on the outward trip all EVs were marshalled in the same lane and boarded first, resulting in being offloaded first! On the return trip although we were given a large EV sticker on the windscreen, we were loaded...

    Insurance, crazy renewal

Same problem here, quotes 23 days ahead were from £2055(Saga) and £2022(LV) to lowest of £966 (Admiral). Last year was £760 (LV). 9 years ncb with a couple of minor parking bumps over the last three years. I guess age may be a major factor, 85 this year! This for a May 2022 MG5 exclusive LR.

    1st service cost MG5 (2022 older model)

Apologies to MG Oxford, a senior moment! Although there is no service book as such, as well as the video I did get a visual safety check report, and a 2 page Maintenance Check Sheet. Sufficient to act as a record of service work done.

    1st service cost MG5 (2022 older model)

No paper service record offered - all now on computer. They did say that they would notify the AA and renew membership for another year. Will check that this has been done.

    1st service cost MG5 (2022 older model)

Just had my first service done at Oxford MG at 8500 miles. Cost was £120 inc VAT which I thought was reasonable, complete with descriptive video, topping up fluids and cleaning inside and out. Shame it takes a couple of hours to get home after leaving the car, two buses and about a mile and a...
