Isn't the answer to physically check the socket for excessive heat after charging using the MG supplied granny charger for a reasonable period. That is what I have been doing and have not felt it getting hot to the touch. And of course a regular visual inspection of the socket and plug.

The only advice I can give you is..go for it and get one. After close to 3 years of my SR SR I can still say that it is a wonderful car to own and drive. So easy to live with and I still love mine. No faults so far. A fantastic car for the money.

Have to say I prefer the existing style. The biggest benefit of the new version is the significant mass reduction which will improve efficiency. Mine is 2½ years old into a 4 year PCP, so I will be interested in the new car then.
