Catch up service to validate the Warranty

The user/owner is never able to see as I understand it, to see or access the digital record for the car. The only proof you have is the paperwork produced for the service and the trust that it's been properly uploaded to MG in order to maintain the 7 year warranty. It would be great to be able...

New MG4 EV (2026 facelift) - Now on MG website

Has anybody actually seen or test driven the 2026 version, or the MG4 Urban? I was surprised yesterday that when I was in the dealers that there was neither of them in the showroom, and looking round the site couldn't see one anywhere. I thought the intention watching the webcast with @Miles...

    Range Improving with weather

Yep, range is certainly effected by the weather conditions. My regular trips to the south coast consume around 37% of battery during the warmer months, over that really cold spell it went as high as 50% for the same 100 mile journey. (Trophy LR)

Anyone wash their car today? ?

@salty, I'd definitely agree that clean wheels and tyres make a car. I always like to dress the tyres. Sometimes just doing the tyres, as it definitely draws your attention away from a otherwise less than spotless car, as @Chrisdriving also points out. I use Astonish black trim restorer, it's a...

    Pavement channels for charging cables

A great idea for those without off street parking, and I've seen them at Everything Electric, but as always once an authority gets involved there is red tape and hoops to jump through for the survey, installation and use of the gulley. The licence is because it's installed by the council or a...

    MGS5 64kWh LFP arrival.

A 62kWH LFP already exists in some markets (Newzealand or Australia I believe), we get the 49kWh LFP and the 64kWh NCM battery.

Service plan - is it worth it?

When I bought mine, the deal came with 2 years free servicing. I have added to this years 3 to 6 on a plan. The overall cost for the 6 years works out to £166 a year. The MOT'S for years 3 to 6 are extra, but at the reduced rate of £35 per MOT

Maybe An Idea To Renew VED Before The Budget

@Les burrows, and @MG Clive, I've had to start paying for mine too. Registered beginning of March 23, I just got in last year. This year the full £195......the government sites the popularity of EV's, means they are loosing too much to the contribution of roads upkeep etc. My old Ford C-max (now...

New MG4 EV (2026 facelift) - Now on MG website

@tsedge, Old Trophy Long Range is quoted at 1675 kg, new Premium Long Range quoted at 1765 kg. Old Trophy Etended Range quoted at 1751 kg, new Premium Long Range quoted at 1755 kg. So the new Premium Long Range is 10 kg heavier than the new Premium Extended Range. The model that has really put...

New MG4 EV (2026 facelift) - Now on MG website

@tsedge, also MG are quoting the same top speed for both the Premium Long Range and Premium Extended Range at 112 mph, while the old Trophy was quoted at 99 mph, and the Trophy Extended Range at 112. The power is also less in the new Premium Long Range at 190 bhp rather than 203 of old version...

    New MG2 ? ? ?

The Independent has hinted on how the MG2 could look. Based on the same E3 platform that has just been released in the UK as the MG4 Urban. https://www.independent.co.uk/cars/electric-vehicles/new-mg2-electric-supermini-b2919554.html

Vehicle fires getting out of control

    Autocar review - MG4 EV (2026)

Sort of..if you zoom in. The M runs down the centre of the panel, from the back to the front of the seat squab. The G is at 45 degrees across the panel again from back to front but on a different line to the M.

    Autocar review - MG4 EV (2026)

There seems to be some technical oddities in the Autocar review compared to the information on the MG website: Autocar are quoting 188BHP (140 kW). MG are quoting 170kW (227BHP) for the Premium long range. Under the Weights and Measures section of the Autocar review it says it had 17" rims as...

    Valve caps

The 3D printed ones give satisfaction on many points, designing or customising an existing print file, watching them being made, delivery on the same day, no doubt more too, rather than mouse clicks and a 2 week wait.

    Happy with my range.

That's surprising that the EV3 has a better drag coefficient than the MG4 (0.26-0.267 versus 0.27-0.287) as the EV3 looks so bluff at the front. I also a reference to power versus speed by @Fogey back in Nov 2022, the thread was called; MG4: Drag, Various Conditions
  23. EvTek23

    Happy with my range.

Yes it's mainly the aerodynamic drag that's the issue along rolling resistance etc. An EV at 70 mph will roughly consume 17% more power than at 60mph. Assuming 3.5mls/kWh, then at 60 mph, power consumed = 17.143kW. At 70 mph then the power = 20KW.

The Chat GPT version of a Granny Charger is even more hilarious.....I should ask for the instructions on how you use it, starting with plugging it in...hmmmm. Then how does the input output loop round the charger work?

Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

When my previous car was due for replacement, (an Eco Green Diesel as they were portrayed in 2013 when purchased), diesel was in 2023 starting to be demonised, and the ULEZ emission scheme started up in London then it seemed appropriate to change to something that was ULEZ compliant, and ahead...

New MG4 coming soon: what are your questions?

@tsedge, I agree, as a Trophy owner I appreciate the extra range over the present SR, but there were those who said the extra expense wasn't worth it until they considered all the extra kit that the Trophy spec has over the SE. The new ER looks tempting with its longer range over the old ER, a...

New MG4 coming soon: what are your questions?

With the split LFP/NMC battery technologies across the new MG4 LR Premium and ER Premium, that old debate of the SE SR and SE/Trophy LR will come to the surface again. They'll both have the same effective range when the LR with LFP is charged to 100% versus the ER, NMC charged to 80% on a...

    Hv charger cable mm

I've often wondered about those nice neat coils besides the car at public charging points, or the coiled cable over a post and the effect of heat or electromagnetic induction into the post and hence a power loss in charging. Having done some research I haven't found much information about any...

Keeping track of my MG4 (efficiency)

@NLMGSAN, it is odd that the monthly milage over the raw power inputs from home and public charging give a mls/kWh efficiency higher than the on-board computer, and I questioned it too. How the car algorithms work out the figure presented we don't know, but I just worked mine out from data I...

Keeping track of my MG4 (efficiency)

Having posted my in car figures for January @ 3.4mls/kWh, I've now worked out the figures for electricity in, to milage for January on my spreadsheet. This gives a figure of 4.104mls/kWh overall, at a cost of 10 pence/mile.

Keeping track of my MG4 (efficiency)

Here are my figures for January taken from the trip computer. I've also made up a spreadsheet that shows efficiency from charging input to milage/cost as a true efficiency figure, as yet for last month to be compiled.
