Im a little confused. is the first service not due 12 months after its first registration. Surely its not an earlier date? That not something i considered when i got first service
Sure it applies. There will be a few of these but in likely equal % for ICE or any other cars. Surely few would bother to SORN a car for a month or two? Maybe i'm just wasteful minded :-)
I didn't include Cyberster in this small survey?
Yes that;s what i was trying to get across. my data is based on cars 2022+ so SORN will have very few collectables, hobby, summer or show cars etc. cars in the mix, that are not driven. because of their young years
i assumed that a large percentage of the SORNs here are being repaired to...
heaven forbid someone should disagree with you. unforgivable.
I didnt realise that you were referring to write off that are scrapped only. As far as i know, not all written off cars are scrapped, some are just deemed not economic to repair.
what is the usefulness of this reply? @MG Clive clarified his position and i agreed.
anyway i would argue that scrap numbers are extremely low given Between January 2023 and June 2025, only 3,250 electric vehicles were scrapped in the UK and i would imagine the majority of those are crashed...
I know it's difficult to draw comparison when looking at a fruit bowl. But the fruit is either eatable or not so maybe it's still relevant.
I don't think there are more old people driving BEVs. So I don't think thats a factor.
Thing is if they aren't drivable they would be SORNed. So why the...
I don't follow this logic. Pro rata they would surly be similar % SORN regardless of their numbers. Granted very small numbers may have freek swings. Interesting that there are 169k MG4s registered in UK and not SORNed since 2022. 100k model 3 and 163k Golfs.
I've heard similar stories. Mad if that is the way of it. But I've also heard that many modern card not just BEVs suffer the same due to lack of available spares.
Reliability is maybe the wrong word, true. Maybe repairable would be better word. I wonder why the ICE cars are double the BEVs SORN ratio?
I'd assume write off ratio would be similar maybe higher for BEVs but the SORN ratio is half
interestingly SORN rate for Volkswagen golf is 0.52%, ford puma 0.46%, KIA sportage 0.53% (random ICE samples)
some of the most popular ICE cars in UK
MG4 at 0.25% not looking so bad
(i have amended these figures to those registered from 2022)
Ive been doing some research on mg4 reliability, looking at DVLA SORN rates compared against the Tesla model 3 based on cars first registered on 2022 and later.
[ Edit moderator: SORN stands for Statutory Off Road Notification, applying to the UK. ]
MG4 has a SORN rate of 0.25% compared to...
ive been doing some research on mg4 reliability looking at DVLA SORN rates compared against the Tesla model 3 based on cars first registered on 2022 and later. MG4 has a SORN rate of 0.25% compared to 0.21% for Tesla. to me this confirms that the MG4 is almost as reliable as the Tesla model 3 or...
Yeah sorry about that. On reflection it looks a bit harsh. I didnt look to see his history, but note he still hasnt contributed to his own post. This is a pet hate of mine about forums, im afraid. If your going to post you should then contribute to the thread
I have the exact same issue for two years. MG cant resolve it, hence how i fount this chat. Ill try the manual setttings as that would do me (I guess/ we will see)
