Thanks for the replies. This is the charger - it says Rolec on the front. There's no card to swipe - it's always active. I just had to pay a flat fee to the owner to use it as needed during our stay (he claims ignorance of all matters EV).

My 22 plate MG5 is the same, and I've only ever used the granny charger at home as well (plus a few charges off 7kw fast chargers here and there).

Do you mean with a dongle or something? I don't have one, but there's no error messages on the car's display.

Well, I can finally confirm the update did the trick on my 22 plate MG5. We had a trip to Seahouses today, and I did a slight detour to Adderstone services and did a short test charge, which worked perfectly. 51p per kWh, as opposed to 79p at Alnwick services a bit further south of there.

I meant that my post was a reply to a comment about charging time and power only. For that purpose, the size & energy density is irrelevant.

I didn't know about the 480kW chargers already out in the wild. For the purposes of this discussion, the capacity of the battery is what matters, not it's physical size and weight.

Not sure where you've plucked those figures from, but you're mixing up your kw with your kwh. My MG5 battery is 60kwh and will go about 200 miles. Say a 1000km (about 620m) would need to be 200 kwh, you would need 200kwh of energy to charge it from zero to full. To charge in 8 minutes you'd...

They told me they would just charge for labour so cost would depend how long it took them (estimate was 'up to an hour'). In the end it took half an hour.
