I have this issue, it sounds more like a creaky spring than anything rubbing. I can isolate it to either the back or seat when I'm in the car, but that hasn't helped me think of a solution.

If people are emailing would it not be better to ask for them to just remember the previous settings like you had before? The only issue I can see with this is if more than one person drives the car and they have different preferences.

Do you know if ECO mode does anything other than make you accelerate more slowly?

My SR has done the same. I put this down to a combination of the cold affecting the batteries, the increased use of demisters and heaters, and the fact I've been driving a little less economically. All normal stuff and I wouldn't worry unless in goes off a cliff (metaphorically).

I don't know if this test will work. Thieves use repeaters to relay the signal further the radius of the standard omitted signal. If you could park the car right up against the front door (or nearest outside area to where the key usually sits) then test it I think that would work.
