When one of my doors are opened or even ajar, I can’t select D. That’s understandable. but with my tail gate wide open I can select D and drive off. Is this normal operation? Or should it not have allowed me to select D, as it does for the doors? Thanks.

I had a puncture today. The repairer made a comment about the amount of rust for a new car bought 1 and 1/2 month ago. I take it this is not normal for a new car and I will have to take it up with the dealer. Thanks.
