Boot not locking

Just discovered whilst away for a break that I can open the boot when the car is locked. It sets the alarm off but not much help when someone us running off with "out if sight" valuables.

You say the alarm went off, that is not expected behaviour. When you lock the car all doors and the boot are locked. With the key near the car you can open the boot but the alarm should not go off. If the key is away from the car you cannot open the boot except by a long press on the boot button on the key.

Could be that the "alarm" (horn beeping) was just the car reacting to me pressing "lock" with the boot open.

Yes, that's expected behaviour if you try to lock the car when any of its 'doors' is open.

It's the "Find Car" feature to help find your car in a car park. You can either have the horn sound and the lights flash or just the lights. It operates if you press the lock button when it's already locked.

Isn't this a separate (but similar) feature, to warn people not to walk away from their car thinking it is secure when there is in fact an aperture wide open?

It could be but as far as I'm aware the MG4 doesn't have this feature.

Hehe - believe it or not - this is not a bug, this is a feature...
I'm more concerned with the fact that I've had quite a few situations where I wasn't able to unlock the boot - regardless of how many times I pressed the lock/unlock buttons and the boot button.
I only got out of those by getting back in the car - getting it in ready state and then trying to open the boot again (however - the first 2-3 times when I didn't know the exact rain dance I had to perform - I ended up folding the rear seat to get to the stuff in the boot)...

Yes, I think it does: I have twice 'locked' the car with a door not completely shut and the horn has sounded each time to warn me.

Yes it does. My wife has sometimes opened the boot and then I've automatically locked the car with the door button and it sounds the horn to warn me that something is open. It does the same if any door is open (the shopping is sometimes on the back seat!).

Just need cars to warn people if they have left shopping on the car roof.

Sometimes you see videos of people doing that.

My experience with mg4. When I press button on drivers door to lock the car, the horn sounds once (one honk), to indicate the check other doors. In all cases, a door or boot was ajar or open. Today my wife left her door ajar and I locked the car using driver door button. It didn’t give me the single honk I have become accustomed to. It locked without complaint. I retrieved my bag from the boot as I usually do, shut the boot and the car doors remained locked. However today the alarm went off. I opened her door, shut it and alarm turned off. Odd.
