My boot won't engage - solved

Issue : Boot won't engage after opening, when trying to shut the boot, it just bounces back up.

I Had this issue with my MG5 facelift model and I've taken it to the garage twice to get it solved, and each time they've given me the car back and looked at me like I'm an idiot. One time I was told the issue was a bit of string, whereas that string was what I'd used to keep the boot closed whilst driving.

Today it happened again. I managed to solve it and wanted to share in case anyone else has this issue.

I'd tried to get the catch to engage with a screwdriver, slamming it, swearing at it, and even attempted to find religion to make it work.

Finally the solution was to press the boot down slowly , active central locking and then use the boot open button on the key fob. That caused something to activate and then the boot works again hunky dorey.

As an S6 owner I appreciate the post, pretty sure both systems are the same.

I get this intermittently on my FL MG5 (never had it on the PFL). It’s annoying but I find a long press on the boot open button on the fob till you hear the mechanism click sorts it and the boot will close properly again
