    MG4 in Australia

Bought my 64kWh Excite in late September ‘23, 24000km on the clock atm and loving it. Averaging just under 15kWh/100km on mostly rural driving and trips into Canberra, charging to 100% the evening before my next trip (usually 100km+) and I don’t charge again till it gets down to 10-20% and only...

Paint Supplies: Canberra region go to https://www.capitalpaintplace.com.au/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gmb Walked in, named the paint and walked out in 10 mins with touch up paint. Brilliant.

    Our first long journey...

Just back from a run up to Wombeyan Caves for the weekend, bit of hill climbing and steep descents with sections of unsealed, corrugated roads through farmland and bush. 150km used 42% on the way up (Gained 25km on the hill down into the Wombeyan Valley) and arrived home with 16% left (or about...

    Road tripping in the MG4

Aussie here, we’re going to do the Big Lap around Australia which is now possible due to the charger network in place and we’re thinking of buying this tent for the MG4. https://www.bunnings.com.au/suv-camping-tent-car-tailgate-shade-side-awning-canopy-portable-outdoor-shelter-suv-2p-black_p0615104

Thanks, much as I had reasoned myself…means I just need to charge once a week, usually the night before or the morning before. It would also take me down to the sub 20% level each time.

Just wondering about regularity of 100% charging. I do up to 3 trips to Canberra a week (I should move there😂) which means about 380km in total which is getting up to the max. comfortable range for me. If I charge to 100% the night before I start my weekly driving, can I do this week by week...

Electric motors convert electric energy into motive force in most trains, I’ve been on two ships in the last few years that are state of the art Azopod electric steer/drives and one was 300,000t displacement…all from motors with minimal moving parts.

My Ute was usually pulling a dual axle trailer carrying a couple of 500kg steers, so working hard. That the MG can pull a trailer and only have a 1.4 magnitude decrease in efficiency tells me that ICE v EV pulling efficiencies are not too dissimilar. ICE drivers imo tend not to look into the...

I’m calculating about 23 kWh/100km then if my maths serves me, this is 1.44 times the base consumption of my MG4 so (based on numbers I’ve generated over the years towing trailers with my Hilux) it is better than the 1.6x increase I usually got with a diesel ute. I’m impressed but not surprised.

Yes, we’re thinking of doing a big lap staying at pubs mainly, a small trailer would work so that we could throw in a swag or two as well🙂

Begs the question regarding a roof rack?

If my car is getting efficiencies in the 14.5-17kWh/100km it is fine…under the perspective that my solar/battery system is giving me ‘free’ km, the effect is not seen in effective range and I’ll just note the variation in efficiency but not really try to do anything about it as there are lots of...
