    New tyres all models

i replaced original summer tyres at 2000 miles with goodyear all season. Great grip on ice, wet or snow. Use 'snow' mode on my mg s5 and you can pull away, positively, with virtually no skitting. Braking and cornering much better than summer tyres. I've had winter tyres for many years and...

    Time for new tyres

I got new tyres from local independent dealer, 'ED's Treadz" Great service and price. EV specific tyres cope with extra load but regular tyres with same load rating will do same. There’s strip of sound deadening foam on inside of ev tyre but I’ve not seen any evidence of noticeable improvement...

    New tyres - goodyear

No no. It is not safe to fit just two tyres of one type to front with different to back. Always fit tyres as full set. So full set of winter OR all season OR summer. Look at tyre manufacturer website. Look at tyre fitting companies too they all say the same. And even with full set of same never...

    Winter Tyres

I sold my original summer tyres at 2300 for £220 and replaced with full set of Goodyear all season for £520. I’ve now got much safer, full set of tyres that’ll be a great improvement in the cold months. Much much safer in colder weather inc snow and ice. Cost a few pounds to swap but I’m much...

Overnight charge in garage not freezing. 80% 185miles

Cheers. A neighbour with mg 4 suggested going to 100% once or twice a month to help balance. Seems good advice. Cheers.

Overnight charge in garage not freezing. 80% 185miles

Thank you. Last drove about 3 hours mostly dual c way and m way at about 3.5-4 m/kw so your comments seem sound. Cheers.

Overnight charge in garage not freezing. 80% 185miles

I’ve previously had 80% at around 220 consistently. This seems very low. Charged in garage. Not freezing yet

    Winter charging

Current bes practice is to charge up to 80% unless starting long journey. This mg article from 2021 says to charge to 100% over winter. I only use my car 3-4 days a week. Rarely a long journey. Is 100% right for all winter regardless of journeys? Here’s the text Always try to charge the...

    Winter Tyres

I used winter tyres over many years but now retired don’t drive much over winter and have gone for full set of all season. So no wheel swapping. If in Scotland or wales I’d go for winters though.

    MG5 scheduled charging

I’ll need to check that. But all solar currently goes into battery. Loads from house and EV charge are drawn from battery.

    Costly Brake Replacement

As an EV there should be very low brake wear but even ice car shouldn’t need discs replacing let alone all four. Kwikfit do good brake check. Report includes photos of all the discs with relevant thicknesses to check with car spec etc.

    MG5 scheduled charging

Thanks for non-condescending explanation - a lot of that on so many forums! Cheers

    MG5 scheduled charging

Car is new mg S5 trophy long range Don’t know what EVSE is.,. Problem I have is any time so solar isn’t relevant inasmuch as EV charger draws from the battery only whether on a sunny day or at night. Battery storing combination of solar and cheap rate electricity. Thanks.

    MG5 scheduled charging

On all for mg s5 EV I can schedule charging. All good but domestic battery/inverter ( with free electricity from solar) can only send 3.6kw and then pulls the rest from grid. Expensive.
