New tyres - goodyear

Went in for new tyres last week and they didn't have the usual Michelin Primacy 4s so fitted Goodyear Ultra grip Perfomance 3 instead. I'm only posting this to say they are incredibly quiet on the road, much quieter than the Michelins. Might be because they are winter tyres I don't know. Shame really I've only got the car a couple more weeks so I won't get the benefit

They are designed to reduce road noise transmission with a foam layer inside (around 4dB vs a tyre w/o).

Edit: The around 4 dB reduction (presumably in road noise/rolling contact) is not terribly significant to an external listener in comparison with a tyre that has a noise rating in the mid-high 70 dB region, but I guess the foam inner also acts as a sound dampening medium (like the pads under a stainless steel sink) and that helps reduce vibration transmission (and hence sound production) through the vehicle structure and lowers the noise level inside the car.
Maglev cars are what we want (ain't going to happen in three of my lifetimes). Potholes would then be history. No need for tarmac either (not much anyway).

No no no, this is my MG5, belongs to work and in which I have driven 100k miles. I think I'm on my 4th set of tyres on it

I'm only posting this to say they are incredibly quiet on the road, much quieter than the Michelins.

I personally like the Good Years myself, had Bridgestones on my last VW Golf GTE phev and they were terrible !.
Traction was not great and noisy on the road.
Good Years where much better in every way.
Bridgestones are a hard compound, good on wear but thats it.
The Good Years are a softer compound and therefore offers much better grip etc, then may not last as long, but who cares to be frank, they are noisy !.
Guess what is on our new MGS5 - Bridgestones of course, these will be getting their P45 earlier than they expect for sure !.

I have been using Hankook Ventus Prime 4 and they have been excellent, miles better than the OE!

I do like the Good Years, wish I had them on our new S5. I do find that the road noise on these tyres to be much better.

I have just fitted those on my Kona all round. I went for the VW version with ratings of A,A and 67dB.
They are definitely quieter on the road but maybe a bit less 'bumb absorbing' than the Primacy's that were on before.

No no. It is not safe to fit just two tyres of one type to front with different to back. Always fit tyres as full set. So full set of winter OR all season OR summer. Look at tyre manufacturer website. Look at tyre fitting companies too they all say the same.
And even with full set of same never put new tyres to front - even though they’ve probably come off the front. Best tyres to rear. Please look at the websites for your tyres and the company that fitted them , ie kwikfit or ATS. - it’s confirmed there too. Then ask why they fitted new tyres to front, against tyre company and fitting company advice.
Having best tyres to front encourages oversteer and loss of control. Stability control, abs etc are only as good as the tyres and tyre combination. Ive just sold my summer tyres and got full set of good year all season.

If you dont drive like an idiot it is fine, an MG5 is not the sort of car to be pushing the performance envelope of any tyre regardless of age or quality.

Tyre fitters of course push the full set mentality because it makes them money!

The MG5 may not have supercar performance but it's no slouch at just over 7 seconds 0-62mph, comparable with something like a Mk5 Golf GTI, but without the handling to go with it, and handling matters when cornering.
