    Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

Used several Tesla chargers here too after updating. Works perfectly.

Newbie here - considering buying MG5 sub £10k

Long Range models are compatible, they just need a software update on the EVCC module only. Standard range depends on the physical EVCC module in the car. Info on those here (expect to pay £1000+ for a dealer replacement of this)...

    Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

My MG dealer said exactly the same to me, after they charged me for the update and it didn't work (they updated the CCU instead of the EVCC). I had to go though head office to get a refund and even then they were adamant that only the MG4 was compatible.

Why are motorway services fast chargers so unreliable?

If you get a 22kW cable, it will get you the maximum available charge rate on all charge points (7kW on 7kW charge points, and 11kW on 11 and 22 kW charge points). You will therefore only need to carry the one cable for all eventualities. If you get an 11kW cable, it will only provide 3.6 kW on...

    Public Charging MGS5

It's worth checking the rate received by the car vs. the charger. The charger will be outputting more than the car is actually receiving, as some electricity is lost when the AC provided by your charge point is converted to DC to store in the battery.

    Public Charging MGS5

For AC charging, yep! Both 7 and 22 kW AC chargers will get you the car's maximum charge rate. Alternatively, charge up at a DC rapid charger. If you don't have charging facilities at home, a £10 per month subscription to either Tesla or Ionity may be beneficial, and will get you rates of...

    Public Charging MGS5

If you're receiving 3.5kW on a 7kW charger, many 7kW posts have two connectors. The 7kW is shared between the two connectors, so if another car plugs in, your speed will be halved. Some are certainly throttled as you say. However, it is impossible to get more than 3.6kW with an MGS5 on an 11kW...

    Public Charging MGS5

The MGS5 is only capable of single phase AC charging. 11kW charge points are 3 phase. As your car can only use 1 of the three phases, on an 11kW charge point the maximum charging speed possible is 3.6kW (11 divided by 3). You'll lose a small amount during charging so you'll likely see a max...

Why are motorway services fast chargers so unreliable?

No problem! And yep that's the exact reason. The charge point has 3 phases, but your single phase cable can only take 1 of the three, so you're only getting 1/3 of the 11kW possible. Technically the charge point can put out 3.6kW (11 divided by 3) max to your car, but a small amount is lost...
