Problems connecting to Rapid Chargers - and I'm not a Newbie!

On facelift models, you can tap the 'Lock' button on the central display instead of locking the entire car. Seems to work just just fine and is an easier option if you intend to remain in the car during charging. Pre-facelift...unfortunately it seems a full lock is the only option.

Problems connecting to Rapid Chargers - and I'm not a Newbie!

Locking the car first seems to be quite an important step for me. If it's not locked, charging can be hit and miss starting. Once there's a failed charge, it's a nightmare to get going! It then needs powering off and leaving for a few mins before trying again.

    Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

Not too much hope but I'll definitely give it a go. Wolverhampton charge £130 more than Telford for the service so I won't be taking in there, although the lady on the device desk immediately knew about the update. Telford took all day to understand the problem once I'd booked in for a...

    MG5 2nd Service Cost

Thanks! Called Budgen MG Telford - £200 and a few pennies. Much better, and I'm surprised at such a significant difference between dealers.

    MG 5 Charging

I charge mine to 80 percent. However, if I have a long journey the next day, I top it up to 100 percent over night. Note that Ohme chargers can't detect the SOC of an MG5, so setting the Ohme app to 80 percent attempts to add 80 percent, rather than charge to 80 percent. I therefore have my...

    MG5 2nd Service Cost

Hi all, I've had my MG5 FL for just under a year. When purchased, it was a year old so the dealership performed the first service when buying, so I didn't pay extra. I've just called to book in for its second service at Brindley MG Wolverhampton and been quoted £330. The service intervals...

    Won’t charge at 125kW charger

I used to suffer from the same issue on selected rapid chargers, primarily Instavolt and Ionity. As soon as charging started, it would stop. The charger would indicate the car was stopping the charge. Once you have a failed charge, getting it going again can be a pain and frequent attempts...

    MG5 Instavolt charging problems.

With each charging operator installing different hardware it can vary from charger to charger. There's an EVPoint near work for me that needs you to pre-auth before the charging connector can be removed from the charging point itself, whereas Ionity Milton Keynes let's you plug in before you...

    MG5 Instavolt charging problems.

Ah that makes sense! Lock the car before starting the charge and you might find the charging more reliable - the charger locks in when you lock the car. Unlock when it's started and lock again when you get in to keep the charging going.

    MG5 Instavolt charging problems.

It's the one on the central display: You'll immediately hear the charger lock, then you can start charging and power the car back on once started. It's a bit of a fiddle getting out the car, plugging in, getting back in to lock, back out to start charging etc. But it does seem to work reliably.

    MG5 Instavolt charging problems.

Rapid charging with the MG5 can bit sketchy if you don't lock the car first. I've also found once a charge fails, getting it going again can be a bit of a nightmare and might even need the car turning off for 10 mins before it'll charge correctly. To avoid this, power off the car, connect the...

    IONITY

I've had similar issues with Ionity at Milton Keynes (older type, no Halo) and occasionally elsewhere. Everything starts, and as soon as the light by the port illuminates green, charging stops. I've managed to avoid this happening by following the below: If leaving car unattented. - Power off...
