Mine has now finally gone after repeated delays from the finance company that meant I had to fork out for extra insurance. Anyway, I took it out for one last 50 mile drive before it went to compare to the BMW i4 which replaced it.
It's more nimble in town than the i4 and still decent to drive...
A further update, it's just a joy to drive something where all the software and driver aids just work without any annoyances. MG badly messed up a great car with poor software governing everything from the centre console to LKA and ACC. Let alone the non functional TJA. The BMW has perfect...
Two different systems - one gives you an advance warning of a possible collision if you don't take action then brakes if you don't. The other jams on the brakes without warning and causes an instant stop. Only the latter is an issue.
The problem with the MG4 there is no warning prior to the brakes slamming on in the incidents described previously. It's not like it's telling you it will brake if you don't, it just suddenly does it with no warning. Then stops the accelerator from working so you're stuck until you push the...
This can't be the AEB. I don't know what it might be, I've never seen it, but I have experienced the instant and unexpected AEB. The theoretical minimum for a human to react to a signal is 100ms. Which is why it's the cut off for false starts in track sprinting.
Even if you trained yourself to...
You'll have a lot more freedom when you're not tied to one vehicle and one manufacturer through a finance agreement...
Not that it's going to happen. We already have car sharing which is short term rental and that's not replaced mass ownership. Even if you ignore that the technology of self...
They don't all do this. Many cars have better implemented systems with fewer false positive reactions. You can still blame the politicians though, they should have insisted on better minimum standards for these automated systems. MG somehow lucked into having a good engineering team to design...
To get back on topic, having got my new car and having not yet returned the MG4, weirdly I have a greater appreciation for it. It would make a very decent EV for a second car if you buy a used one for cheap if you can overlook the horrific 'driver assistance' implementation. It remains a car...
It's a fair point. But this speaks to the problem with EVs being as much software as hardware. Everybody knows software is never released perfect and requires a continuous update programme but that is hard when you can't do or risk OTA. I don't know what the solution is other than to suggest...
Second hand i4. Newer than the MG, old enough to have undergone a significant amount of depreciation for an M Sport with pretty much everything bar the adaptive headlights (which don't work, because no adaptive headlights can work on the twisty roads around here). All for slightly more than the...
Yeah. Mine is going back in a few weeks. Although with respect to the above I've had no issues with the charging or the AC once you adjust for the temperature offset and the software update fixed the DAB to the extent it only fails one journey in 10, rather than every journey. But the LKA is...
I had software updates applied in August of 2024. But not the LKA improvements and since last August nobody has bothered to contact me (or respond to my contact) to install them.
Another absolutely terrifying and random AEB event yesterday after several months of good behaviour. Was crossing into the Tesco carpark when it triggered after thinking the car about 100m away and travelling at about 20mph was going to hit me. This left my car straddled across the centre lane...
