MG ZS Steering Fault - clicking when turning

I had the mk 1 zs ev, with these issues, with all the messing about I got from service, the sales guy agreed to swap to the mk 2 and I hoped mg had fixed the issue. How wrong I was, within a few month the new car started knocking, so I contacted my dealer and agreed to replace the steering column, and I'm still waiting for that phone call been 3 months and counting

I wonder if adjusting the position of the steering wheel has any impact on the problem. Has anyone who HAS NOT adjusted the position from factory default had any issues? Just a thought.

No that didn't help. I am waiting for a new steering column, has been 2 months so far, I am in Australia. Looks like a lot of people have had this problem, hopefully they have rectified the issue with the replacement, as I saw a post that the mk 2 had the same issue .
MG told me the petrol versions have the issue as well

We had the Gen 1 for just over years, from 2019 and covered 20,000 miles.
The steering column click, that soon developed into a knock, was evident after only covering about 1 to 2 thousand miles.
It became more and more noisy there after.
The steering column, was never adjusted from delivery date, until the point where we exchanged it for the Gen 2 model in March 2022.
I was, still am the only driver of both cars and therefore, moving the column adjustment, was / is not necessary.

I'm still waiting as well, ordered on the 26/6/2022, the clicking has not got worse, but there is a small amount of slack which is worrying as I have heard that the UV joints have been known to break.
Yes my uni joint broke, YT video on that. If you are really concerned ask the Dealer for a loan car based on safety reasons. That often speeds things up. Good luck.

Hi Rex, Not sure if you seen my YT video on our uni joint failure but if it gets to a safety issue ask for a loan car. Good luck.

I have sent this to Waylands together with further urging to get some action.
However, they seem ver complacent about it all.
It good advice from @Elec Car Aust to ask for a loan car, it will encourage them to provide a replacement column ASAP because the car hire is costing both them and you money !.
It will likely be a fossil car and not an EV, thats why !.

Um, how would one know / tell?
Presumably, if you haven't been regularly changing the steering wheel position yourself. A few adjustments is presumably not going to be significant.

I'm assuming owning the car from delivery, and not a demonstrator.

Sorry if I came across as dismissive, but this seems very obvious to me.

Unfortunately my MK1 also started to do this months ago and now the clicking has got progressively louder and worse.
Its due it's 2nd service in about a month, but I feel like taking it in early to get this resolved, as I'm really worried it may take ages for parts to come in.
If they say they are not familiar with this problem, is there anything specific I should tell them apart from the clicking when turning. Shall I say it's either the steering UJ or whole columns needs replacing.

"I've been reading online about several issues with this....."

Who's your current dealer?

My guess would be that as MG Tech will be instructing the dealer in a course of action, then based on previous data history of other cars, they will approve the dealer to order, then install a new steering column.
Which I would imagine comes with the lower UJ coupling included.

I have just had ours replaced, MG did a great job, they have done plenty of them including petrol zs . Which is one reason I didn't get ours fixed earlier, so they would be experienced at it. In Australia.
