MG ZS EV
Hi guys, I have a 2022 updated MG ZS EV, I’m looking for a set of snow tyres, with rims.

Where’s the best place to look?
Has anyone bought a new set?

I’m not sure where to start really, I’ve never bought a complete set of wheels before, so I dont know if it’s something you can do on the internet? Do the wheels have a specific hole alignment , size etc?

You live in Cardiff, so do you mean winter tyres rather than snow tyres? Yes, the wheels have a specific hole alignment and size and the internet is the best place to look. I've had spare sets when I had a 4x4 but my ZS isn't going anywhere as extreme as Cardiff so haven't bothered for the MG :D

So your post talks about two different things - tyres and wheels. I assume you just want to change the tyres from current summer or all season tyres.

By snow tires, I assume you mean winter tyres, rather than just snow chains to go on to tyres.

In which case try a website like blackcircles.com or halfords.com/tyres. Enter your car registration and it'll list tyres suitable for your car. You can then filter the selection by season, so just tick winter.

Both offer tyre only or they'll fit them for you on your driveway. Even if you don't order them through them, it'll give you an indication of what to search for.

When you enter your registration it'll ask you to confirm the tyre details as it'll draw it's information from it's existing database. Just double check the details it spits our against the markings on your existing tyres. See below

Thanks mate, I was thinking more of the tyres and wheels. So I can keep a spare set in the garage and just change them for a few months over winter myself. That’s what I’m not sure about really, how do I find wheels to fit?

Yes I want the wheels and tyres, so I can swap them out at home for a few months, I’ll have to look up the hole alignment. I was hoping someone has done something similar tbh!

I think there is a thread on this forum for getting a spare wheel that gives suitable wheel details. From what I remember VW or Audi are suggested.

Actually finding a whole wheel is beyond me (the only ones I've seen online are space savers and most seem to be 16" rather than the standard 17" for the ZD), but if you just want the details for hole alignment etc I'd have a look here 2022 MG ZS EV - Wheel & Tire Sizes, PCD, Offset and Rims specs

(Just make sure you scroll down to the right version of the ZS EV as it has the details for both the old and the facelift version).

All season I think are the way to go. The Michelin cross cimate 2 or Continental all season contact 2 are the best and are fully winter (snow) and summer tyres. I changed mine to the continentals, they have really improved handling with no efficiency consequenses.

Great post, will MG do this change for do you think? I’m worried a backstreet tyre garage will snap the plastic rims!

I agree with @Robf, best option is all season tyres. Not sure why there's a particular need to change to winter tyres for a few months, unless you're in a part of the UK that has extreme weather or laying snow for long periods? so seems to be rather a waste of crime and money to me. Having said that, the grip on the tyres on my 2023 MG ZS is appalling, and a better set of tyres wouldn't go amiss, but for me, it's ultimately an unnecessary expense.

As an aside, although I'm experienced and skilled at driving in snowy conditions, that's with a diesel car. I think I'll need to re-skill myself for doing it in an EV, given how much immediate power they provide. I certainly can't shoot out of a junction the same way anymore without a ridiculous amount of wheel spin, (hence my ordinary driving style has adapted significantly since getting an EV). In snow, the amount of power could be an issue - not that it snows much where I live in the NW coast 🤣

We live in Scotland. We have a 2022 ZS and a 2022 MG5. Both cars have done over 20k miles. The front tyres of the MG5 needed changing so I bought a pair of Verstein Quartrac XL Winter tyres for £219.
The ZS tyres still had plenty of tread so we have kept them in the shed and fitted 4 All weather Kormoran XL tyres at a cost of £380. Apparently these are a cheaper make but made by Michelin. We’re happy with all of them so far and we’ve recently had icy conditions and some snow. No point in sourcing another 4 wheels really!

I bought a set of alloy wheels and winter tyres for my HS PHEV from Wheelbase alloys a couple of years ago. They have a large selection of wheels to choose from at various prices. Also have a selection of winter and all season tyres from budget brands to premium. If you put your car details into there web page it will tell you what wheels and tyres are suitable. I found the site easy to use and the wheels and tyres were delivered promptly. I did find that some of the cheaper options were out of stock but I was ordering during the pandemic when lots of things were in short supply. I ended up buying a set of Michelin winter tyres. I drive to the French alps for skiing where winter tyres/snow chains are compulsory and bought the set mainly for that. I have found they make a tremendous difference in grip compared to the summer tyres on my previous 4WD diesel Hyundai. I change the tyres myself and run on them until March in the UK. I had TPMS installed. I have to reset these myself using an Autel device as the HS does not do this automatically. Don't know if the newer ZS system does this. The tyre/wheel TPMS package cost about £1300 with the Autel £200. Not a cheap option. MG dealers charge about £50-80 to reset TPMS so I figured the reset device would pay for itself after a couple of years..
Good luck

I took the plastic rims off before taking to the garage, in this weather i would heat with a hair drier first. Bought mine through black circles who have a very good local fitter, much better than the larger chains.

I bought some 2nd hand VW golf alloy wheels to put winter tyres on for our ski trips. They match the handbook recommended tyre size. PCD MG ZS EV (2019 - ) 5x112 wheels | PCD, Offset, Center Bore, mounting and tire size data check here for fitment of wheels.

Regarding TPMS I just live with the error message of tpms fault when I have my winter wheels on. Best option is probably all season tyres on standard rims (I just didn't want to throw away brand new tyres!)

Just be aware that for France, if you fit All Season Tyres, you'll be ok for this years ski season but from November 2024 you will need tyres with both an M&S and 3PMSF symbol, ie. full winter tyres, when you are in a Loi Montagne (Mountain Law) region. Not sure what the regulations are in other skiing areas and I don't know how strictly the French will be enforcing the law. All Season Tyres are a compromise and do not perform as well as dedicated Winter or Summer tyres but certainly less hassle to fit than changing between Summer and Winter.

Good point on the 3PMSF spot - good all season tyres such as Michelin CrossClimate have the 3PMSF on them but always worth checking before taking the plunge.

I’ve had good experience with the puncture resistant version of the Goodyear Vector4Season (which carries both M&S and 3PMSF btw) - see here:
